Ok, I finally got a 96 Del Sol!!! Bought it for $2,000. Its got a B18B in it. I never thought I'd have a B series motor, so i dont know much about them. From what I believe, you can bolt a B18C VTEC head right onto a B18b block? is this correct? Thx for any info.
By the way, this is the Del Sol thats parked in my yard, needs new front clip, radiator, and hood, and bumper, THATS IT!!

not too bad lookin for $2k. not sure about vtec head. im sure you could prob google it or look it up on the honda archive. i know people bolt the non-vtec to blocks b/c it responds better to boost. im pretty sure you could swap the head though, but you may wanna research more of it to be sure. -kris

no its not a direct bolt on... there is some machine work involved... and reliability on it for daily drive can be sketchy....

Oh, Ok.. from what I have heard from the ppl's at all the import tuner shops, say that having a B18B block, with B18C head, will give u best of both worlds, High-revving head with solid bottom end power. He also said that yes, reliablilty isn't going to be good at all. And he also said that If you were to go that route, that you must "bulletproof" the block, which u need a machine shop with experience, and what not. Its just not a practical thing to do unless you plan on having it as a N/A drag car that takes just a few runs a week, so ya im keeping mine NonVtec, maybe boosting later on down tha road.

At this point, you might as well throw the B16B in the beast, and call it a day. I had one at one point, and as far as drive-ability, and if you dont want mad power (Just something to whoop on the punk next to you revving) then the B16B is a nice swap.

yea i wouldnt worry about all that, keep it simple, esp. if its the daily driver. imho stick with the b18. -kris

I would def go VTEC! The head will bolt right up but you will need to do a few mods. The block and head will need to be tapped for a external oil line, new dowel holes drilled, some VTEC head bolts, and a reprogrammed ECU. I may be missing a few things, but that's basically it! You may want to go with a VTEC water pump but then you will need a gsr timing belt.:TU:

Oh, ok ok. Yah sounds like it's not just a bolt on.. I figured it would be that, and the ECU. So ya, its over a 17 yr old's head... I got the new front clip on, getting the right fender rolled back out, and repainted sometime. But as for now, im keeping it N/A as daily driver. But..
I've got another question. Since its a '96 del sol, with a '98 Integra LS's motor. Would an exhaust header fit right on the B18B, with it in a del sol?? Also, what would be best to put on the B18B, a DC 4-1 or 4-2-1.. I've heard that the 4-1 is for top end power and usually 4-2-1 boosts torque a little more. So what do u guys think would be best for it. THX. lemmie know sumptin.

Ok yes a vtec head will fit onto a b18b block no problem. Also the bottom end is not that solid. Your best bet is just b18c swap. Gsr block have crank case breather and oil squiters, stronger rods, and stronger main. the ls block is not gonna like the high reving to 8k++, due to weak rods and large amounts of trapped pressure in the crankcase. arp rod bolts will help. if you really want an ls vtec setup--gsr block with ls crank, shotpend or aftermarket ls length rods and pistons. gsr full swap will be more reliable and tons of fun and it will take the abuse.
