i remember talking to a guy with a fairly stock 99 EJ8 who installed a Quaife LSD and he said he loved it. i think he was telling me it was actually his first mod, lol. if you can spring for the cash i'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. :D

Well guys I have the OBX LSD here and i am going to install it when I install my turbo system, the only thing I have heard is that you should check them and make sure everything is torque 2 specifications, i'll let everyone know after I install it :)

yup, always check torque specs. i've heard nothing but good things about the quaife diff, it's just a bit pricey.

The transmission is a touchy section of the car and i really don't want to mess with it myself. I was curious has anyone tried other ones besides quaife and obx.. is there a kaaz or cusco one for the beloved sohc?

kaaz has one listed for the d15b, not sure about interchangeability though,i know you can swap b-series diffs, with minor modification to the case, so it might work for D's too.

have you ever considered just getting a lsd tranny from a d15b? or are you that deadset on getting an aftermarket one?

I'll have to look into that. i never knew they even made an LSD D series tranny oem.

I'm not deadset on anything, just looking into options on how to get an LSD into my car.

Well I think it depends on the setup, for example, an OEM Type R helical is great for N/A setups, but it won't hold up to the strees of a turbo setup, so what do you have in mind?

if you're gonna get LSD, don't waste your time with cheap shit like OBX. it will just cause you problems in the long run. save and get something better.

I read somewhere that some dohc ZC's had lsd trannies but it was really rare. can anyone back that up?

To tell you the truth, here in puerto rico, there is a CRX with a D16Z6 turbo setup only used in competition and it has the OBX LSD, they only use slicks and it hasn't broken yet, it depends on the care u take to inspect it before you install it

i'm personally not a big fan of the obx company, but i haven't heard anything bad about the lsd's. i've searched for reviews and everyone seems pleased with this lsd setup. i know people have been running them pretty hard and i'm not seeing much negative info. i'm thinking about going lsd, but would rather have it on a DOHC swap, than my wimpy d16. we'll see!

how is it more cost effective? Im just curious.

My initial thoughts sees some potential problems with this.

-It is a used tranny meaning the condition of the LSD/gears all varies
-What happens with the LSD is worn out? where do you go about to replace it?

most of these trannys come with 40k or less down here in s.fla and depending on where u buy it comes with a waranty

but that still wont tell you what will happen down the road when the LSD does go out.. then what do you do? Where do you buy a new D series LSD?

all these questions come to my mind cause I know the tranny isnt a temporary solution.

i garantee ur not puting down more than i did with my single cam and i never had any problems, i also love the fact that its oem...

dont buy any thing used..... dont buy a swap, dont buy a tranny , dont buy shit.......because if u think about it down the road those can all go bad too.... used parts are just that "used" that dosent mean that they are beat to shit.... if that were the case no one would be doing swaps with motors that have 40k on them, yet every one does..... im not being a **** im just saying that if u think about every used part that way u will never get things done

and trannys are a good hour maybe 2 (depending on motor) to swap out...
