like this

go with red thermal paint. with wrinkles if available.

red VHT Wrinkle Plus paint.

remove valve cover, sand and clean, mask off areas you don't want painted, paint, let dry, reinstall.

..oh and what ever you do, do not remove the masks afterwards ;)

If it's a JDM cover then you're going to have to special order paint from Honda in Japan. USDM paint won't hold for some reason.

^ you're a retard

As a painter, I would recommend using paint stripper (makes things easier especially for something like a valve cover). unless you want to spend all day sanding it down, thats all you. spray the paint stripper on, watch the old paint bubble up, scrape it off. prep the surface (clean it), spray some primer and then spray it with whatever color you chose, then spray some clear coat. thats pretty much all there is to it.

You can bake it if your really want to get professional.

is a new gasket needed when you put it back on?

Not if the old gasket is in good shape, no rips, tears, dried...or you can get a new one for like $5.

actually u be careful if using paint striper...its eats away at gaskets and stuff if ur not careful.the adhesive that holds the gasket on your valve cover that is. i mean its not that hard to do ...i recommend a wire brush if u can get ahold of one..takes the paint off and leaves adhesion for the paint or primer.

assuming he took off the gaskets, no it wouldn't. i dont see why you wouldn't take the gaskets off before paint stripping let alone painting a valve cover. Your wire brush idea is cool if you want to make deep scratch's in the VC. LOL!

I'm with this guy. be sure to use high temp paint. if you want a killer finish, after you let the clear coat dry you can take some wet/dry 1500 sand paper and wet sand the finish until smooth, finish it off with some 2000 grit and get some 3M hand glaze and rub on it until you can see yourself.

back n the sohc days.

I was a body and paint man for 13 years and I painted at least 20 Valve covers and I never used high heat paint as long as you prep the surface good and you dont put it back on the car right away and let it dry properly you will never have a problem with car paint

did you paint the same valve cover 20 times? the paint will fade due to the heat.

i've had a few vc's painted with normal car paint, shit even rattle can paint. i've never had a problem with fading, chipping, or bubbling. like Dina said, if its done right, it will last.:TU:

No I did not I have painted over 20 different valve covers for many different cars from v8's to 4 bangers and I can say that I still know some one that I painted the VC and 5 years later its the same as it was the day I painted it!

Look at My girl Thread SexyEj1 build and you will see she painted her valve cover with rattle can paint and I have sprayed brake cleaner and power washed it and it still looks the same!

as long as you prep the surface like your suppose to it will make the paint adhere properly and you will never have a problem
