I have a 96 civic ex coupe with the d16y8, with 93k miles now. The only engine mod is an AEM SRI, and I was thinking of doing the header, and exhaust for some more power and mpg. How much would the i/h/e give me? Im guessing around 10 whp or so? How much MPG increase would I see?
I live in cali, so it has to be legal. I was thinking of getting a DC Sports 421 ceramic 1 piece header. SO the 421 gives me low end power right? Whats the difference between the ceramic and stainless? SHould I go for 1 piece of 2?
Any other legal headers?
Now as for the catback, I was thinking of getting a custom one, but im not sure if that would be legal in cali. What kind of piping, size, muffler, and etc would I want. Is there any difference in power from a custom one, and an aftermarket one?

If more air is freely going into the motor, you need more fuel as well... increased HP = decreased MPG

Stainless steel vs ceramic = preference. Ceramic is less likely to discolor and such so it really will stay cooler and look nice.
The bonus I have found with the 2 piece is that it is a hell of alot easier to install than the one.
Finally, I would not go any bigger than 2.5 on your exhaust. Anything bigger and your robing yourself of HP. If you plan to turbo the bigger is better, staying NA and I would say that 2.25 is perfect.
Of course all of this is only my $.02

i would say go for a header that will put the power in the range that you want it. wheter that be low or high end. and for you exhaust i would go with 2.25'' piping keep the cat put a resonator on it and put a quite straight through muffler on it. or if you were looking for a catback system i would go with apexi ws. that is a quiet great flowing exhaust and as far as i know it is cali. legal.hope i helped.

thats what i went with, its cheap but great quality and carb exempt for you cali guys......includes everything, great 250 header/catback........with my aem sri/h/e i MIGHT have gained 15 hp, and went from about low 30 mpg to around 36 mpg on my z6................but then got tired of that huge coffee can off after a week and put a twinloop on, greatest sound

I know this is not an exhaust forum, but there really isnt one on this site so here it goes.. I've got a 1996 del sol Si with a new Jspec B18B in it. I finally decided to buy a header for it. I went for a DC 4-2-1 2 piece header. got it on now. Now i am wondering if a regular Cat back system for a Del Sol would fit/match up to the header, or if i should just have a custom one made at a muffler shop. Thanks for any advice

By the way.. I'm looking at exhaust systems for the Sol on eBay. Is it true that Del sols use the same exhaust systems as Hatch back civics?? thx for the info.

i have the exact same car but with a 99-00 front conversion on it. i also have dc sports 4-2-1 2 piece headers, stainless steel, i only notice the power gain from the headers is more in the top end. i still get about 31mpg. this is even after i rebuilt the bottom end and got it ready for turbo. as far as MPG, if u ask me it all depends on your driving habits, if u have a heavy foot you'll be eating more gas obviously but with me i do alot of hwy driving, and some but not much city street driving so i still get good gas mileage. at least when we floor the pedal we probably only lose 1 gal or less of gas where as if it was a v8 u done alreayd lost half tank from flooring it lol.......
