In the beginning, I came upon this 1999 Civic EX at a dealership I work at. It was a trade in with only 13k miles and nearly 3 years old. I bought it Nov. 2, 2001. It already had:
Del Sol Wheels
Spoiler
Mud Guards
Tint
Fog Lights
Bug Deflector
Here is how my baby looked when I bought it.
Then in May 2002, one month after I lowered it I got side swiped. I had it parked on the street and someone cliped the side. I have no idea who hit it. I had to get a new fender, door skin, mouldings, and have my mirror repainted.
Suspension: Tanabe Sustec Pro SS Coilovers w/Ingalls ft.& Rr. camber kit
I got that fixed and a year or two later I had a friend with a better digital camera take some pics of my car for me...
Shortly after those pics in the summer of 2003 I got rear ended. I had to get a new bumper cover and the body shop realigned the corner piece just below the taillight. The very bottom of my trunk got bent slightly but I can live with that.
My most recent additions are:
Engine:
AEM V2 Intake (Installed Nov. 2003)
Optima Yellow Top Battery
Interior:
Acura OE Shift Knob
Exterior:
JDM CTR Headlights w/PIAA headlight & city light bulbs (Installed Oct. 2004)

Factory Painted License Plate Plugs
Red Honda 'H' Badge (rear)
Wheels/Tires:
16x7 Volk CE28N's Bronze
BFGoodrich g-Force Sport 205/40

nice progress with the car. it looks super clean. i too have had my share of minor cosmetic fixes and they are a pain, especially when your anal about how things look.
i'm especially feeling the mudflaps. i was wondering how they'd look w/ everytihng else painted. i have em on mine, but they are painted vsm to match the car. they look good w/ the painted side skirts and si lip, but they are beginning to flake off again. i'm debating painting them again(3rd time) or just going w/ the black. yours are making me think the black wouldn't be that bad.
props to you and the work on the car. keep up the good clean work.

I would say leave them black. It would look good against the silver paint you have. Plus it would save you from repainting them so many times since they flex so easily.

savageness. Has a Sti spice to it, I like the way you kept the theme.
A little history. Last summer when I purchased some Volks. Size 16x7 with 205/40 tires. With me being lowered they rubbed the rear fenders when I had any passengers, if I hit a bump or did a turn even at normal speed. So I tried raising the car a bit and after hours of pounding on my seized coilovers I finally got them to budge a bit. Just so happens it wasn't enough. It helped but they still rubbed.
One of my other choices was to give myself more negative camber. But I didn't want to do that because I'd be going through tires like crazy. If I could avoid buying tires twice as often, then I'll keep my camber within factory specs.
My other choice was to roll my fenders. So I contacted a local tire shop and rented their fender rolling tool. So without further ado, here is a minor update I did to my ride about a month ago. In other words, I rolled my fenders yo!!
Before pics:
Passenger Side...
Driver Side...
After about 3-3.5 hrs. they turned to this:
Passenger Side...
Driver Side...
If anyone is interested, I can post a "How-To Roll Your Fenders" the best I can. I'm in no means a professional at doing it, nor have any experience, this was my first attempt at rolling fenders. I simply followed a "How-To" in a recent SuperStreet mag.

off topic: what size tires u recomend for 16x7's?
off topic: what size tires u recomend for 16x7's?
Since this is my first set of 16x7's, I've only ran one tire and one size...205/40 BFGoodrich g-Force Sports. But depending on how much clearance you have you could probably go with 205/45 or 50 and of course the bigger the sidewall the more overall diameter your wheel/tire combo will be and hence throw off your speedometer.
You could go bigger but it just won't look right on a civic.
white_rice
05-13-2006, 02:53 AM
i just put the 50's in my tire calculator and it says my speedo would say about 56 mph when i was actually goin 60 mph so i think i'm going to stick with the 45's
Where did you get a tire calculator from, sounds helpful.

Jason any updates on this Coupe?
The latest update I have is my fender rolling on page 2. I also put on some yellow lamin-x fog light covers on my fogs. They look great, but I'm sorry I don't have any pics of those yet. I still don't have a digi cam.
Next upgrade/update will be new sub and amps. I know it has nothing to do with performance but music--*ahem* (clears throat) loud music is a must for me.

Sorry for not responding sooner...Thanks for lookin' and the comments peeps.
Stay tuned for some new pics in the next week or so (so I'm hoping). Got a couple new additions put on/into my coupe. But nothing performance wise...sorry.:jdm:
Okay, time for a little update. I haven't been able to do much with my car due to funds. But, I did spend most of my tax return on upgrading my stereo. Something I've been wanting to do for a while now.
First addition was yellow Lamin-X fog light covers on my fogs.
Now I know most of you will not approve of the stereo because it weighs me down, but I don't give a hoot. My car is daily driven and I enjoy my loud music. With all do respect to those that race their cars and use them as a daily driver, it is the only car I have and I can't afford to take it to the track and risk messing something up.
Now stereo.
--Rockford Fosgate T4004 (4-channel, front and rear speakers)
--Rockford Fosgate T10001.bd (1-channel, sub)
--Rockford Fosgate 15" T2 Power subwoofer
--Custom built box/amp rack
--Fully carpeted trunk
--Dynamat on doors, trunk floor, trunk lid, rear deck, side panels in trunk, rear quarter panels (next to rear seat), and beneath rear seat.
And for kicks here's a shot of my stickers. 5 h.p. each, gives me 20 h.p. boost:p
Enjoy.

Yeah, I feel ya. I used to have two 12's in a box that I could take out pretty easy. I've just been wanting to upgrade for a while now. It also looks cleaner than having a sub box sitting in your trunk.
Damn, dug this up from page 11.
No new parts...been poor. But got some new pics.
My buddy took these with his camera since I still don't have one.
Took a drive near Boulder, CO.
Had to climb up the side of the mountain a bit to get this shot...
Back on level surface...

Some shots near a reservoir in Nederland...

Another nice one with the reservoir and beautiful Colorado sky...

If you go west out of Boulder on Canyon Street (I think is the name), it turns into a two lane highway and takes you into the mountains and up to a town called Nederland. And there you have the reservoir/lake. Its a nice little drive.

any updates on this?
No real updates to speak of.
My car sat for almost two months due to a blizzard we had on December 20th. Dumped a little over two feet of snow. I coudn't get out of my alley for about 7 weeks.
For some reason ever since I started driving it again, my subwoofer sounds like it might have a blown voice coil. So I might be getting me a new one soon, just don't know if it'll be the same woofer or a JL Audio W7.
After that I'll probably pick up a header and exhaust.

How are those tanabe sustecs? Ride height and dampening adjustable? How is the ease of adjustability?
How are those tanabe sustecs? Ride height and dampening adjustable? How is the ease of adjustability?
For a daily driver, they ride great. Not too stiff, but you can still take some corners pretty quick. I wouldn't recommend them for a track car. Probably need something a little more aggressive.
Yes, they are both ride height and dampening adjustable. The dampaning is 4 way front, 8 way rear.
To adjust the dampening, its real easy. The front adjustment is on the top of the strut tower, the rear adjustment is located near the bottom of the strut. It can be reached by kneeling or lying down on the ground.
Now the ride height is another story. Mine seized on me and I can't get them to budge. I don't know if its because I waited for such a long time before I tried for the 1st time, or because I wrapped the threads with teflon tape (which the instructions said to do), or if its a common problem with the coilovers.
All in all, I think there are better coilovers out there. I think I may upgrade to something better in the next couple years...I've had the Tanabe's for 5 years now. Sorry to write an essay:biggrinvb:

The bug deflector was on the car when I bought it back in 2001.
Most dealerships carry them, so check with some in your area maybe. I take it you have the same year as mine??? Being that its a '99, I'm not sure if dealerships will still carry it in stock. But in case you're interested in the brand its called 'Form Fit'.

How was the KBPI show over the weekend? I wanted to make it but food poisoning got in the way.
It was nice. I didn't place or anything, but I met some cool people, got some compliments on my car and saw some amazing cars and trucks. I'm talking about Overhaulin' and Rides worthy cars. I love looking at them old muscle cars and hearing their engines run.
There was an old green street rod style car (not sure the make or year) like from the 1930's that was there and participated in the burnout box they had. After trying its burnout (had too much power to hold still), it slowly pulled away and down the drive and when it was right next to me it revved its engine causing the ground and my body to tremble. It was so loud it reminded me of the NHRA Mopar National Pro cars. I guess Willie B said its an 8 second car.
All in all it was a good show. A lot better than Bandimere the week before.
My new addition arrived and I now have some pics of it. Enjoy!
Now I just have to get it painted.

I also forgot to mention. Last September I entered a car show and it also had a stereo contest. I wanted to enter to see what kind of numbers my new stereo could pull. I was hoping for around 140 SPL but I ended up a bit short.
Here is what I got...2nd run 136.2 (me on the left)
3rd and final run 136.3 (me on the left again)
Ended up getting 2nd place in the stereo contest (Street B class) and 3rd place for the show (JDM class).

Dang that is loud.
Was the lamin-x stuff hard to put on without getting a bunch of bubbles?
Nah, it wasn't too bad. They included a plastic flat edge with my headlight covers. Installation went fairly smooth. I sprayed the headlights with a mist of water a few times to help slide the film and get it in place better. I also used a heat gun to help adhere it to the headlight.
The only crappy part is, a short time after installing it, I noticed the film looks like it is "shattered" or it has these tiny tiny cuts on certain parts of it...makes it look hazy from a distance. My fog light covers look great, but my headlight covers look a little weird.
Installed new fog light bulbs.

That's a great pic in front of the Glass House. Exhaust loooks great.
Your car is damn clean. I like the bug reflector on it
Thanks bro, I've always had a thing for bug deflectors.
what headlight bulbs and foglight bulbs are you using? car look siiiiiiiiiick
do you scrape a lot at that height?
Thanks! Headlight = Sylvania Siverstar
foglights = PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow w/ yellow Lamin-X film
I don't scrape too much other than my mud guards. Maybe it's because I'm very careful as to where I go and what parking lots I enter.
I <3 that exhaust.
Me too.

everytime, this things updated keeps looking even more fresh! great work, i need to get my wheels back... and put the cash back in her!
I have been wanting a new suspension for a while now. So I decided to give myself a Christmas present...some new coilovers.
ASR subframe brace w/sway bar will be installed in the next few weeks. I didn't want to install that with the new coilovers because I wanted to see the difference in handling from coilover to coilover. So far, I like them...A LOT! It's an added bonus that I'm riding a little higher now that it's winter. My old coilovers seized up on me and I couldn't get them to adjust height.

Very nice man!! Those were the coilovers I've been wanting to get.
How do you like them on the coupe?
Get 'em, get 'em!
They're definitely nice. They seem to be slightly more stiff than my Tanabe's I had before and they also are a little noisier when going over cracks in the road or the expansion joints on bridges. That's because my Tanabe's used the factory upper mount, where my new Tein's use pillowball top mounts (metal on metal).
JDMej8
01-02-2009, 11:03 PM
Ah I gotcha.
As far as ride quality though, I assume very nice? I'm so sick of daily driving my car and not spending the good money towards a good suspension setup (which is what I should do)
Ride quality is great man. Not too stiff. Not bouncy at all, they're rather comfortable. And yeah, good quality coilovers are well worth the extra dough.

lovin da new look! if i had the money for teins it wud have been 1st on my EJ1 but PIC's are great and its what i cud afford!
Yeah, I hear ya. It was between the Tein's and the PIC's. In the end I decided to shell out the dough and go for the Tein's. A buddy of mine had the same coilovers on his car and loved them so I had to give them a try.

I'm thinking win too. I just gotta get the mula. Great build. Love white coupes
Thanks. From what I hear, you can't go wrong with either the PIC's or Tein's.
Oh, a little heads up, my ASR rear sub-frame brace w/sway-bar should be installed this Saturday.

aaah your car is so sick! Plus i love the pioneer headunit. Do you have night pics of the new unit you put on it?
Thanks for all the comments guys. I love having rear disc now. Also included in the package was brand new Earl's stainless steel brake lines, those are now installed as well. My friend ran into trouble with the conversion because the caliper piston on both left and right sides were rusted and not to mention the boot around the piston were in poor shape. He was unable to save them so I had to resort to going with some refurbished calipers. So essentially I have new calipers and brake pads for the rear, near new rotors in the rear, and new Earl's stainless steel brake lines on all four corners.

Thanks everyone! Now when I drive it, I feel as though I'm driving a sportier car now that I know I have rear disc. It's kind of a different, fun, fuzzy feeling. As far as the master cylinder, it's still the same, but I did forget to mention earlier, I also got the Si proportioning valve.

Sorry for the delay Rey but here are some night pictures. They didn't come out as I was hoping, I think the screen puts out too much light for the sensor and I can't get the camera to get a proper exposure.
A view straight on from the back seat area. Ipod is hooked up and it displays the song title, artist, and album name along with the album artwork. All touch-screen except for a few buttons at the bottom.
From an angle. If there is no album artwork it displays a music symbol just like the Ipod would.
Thought I would put up a still shot from Bad Boys 2 just for kicks.
One from the navigation menu when the Ipod is hooked up.

BTW. I got my endlinks in the mail, just haven't had time to install them.
Are you referring to the OEM style endlinks?
Let us know how the quality of the Blox endlinks are.
Yeah, Blox makes two kinds of endlinks for the rear. Spherical and fixed. Fixed are like OEM ones, where spherical are adjustable.
I got the fixed ones. I hope they do fine, I haven't heard too many good things about blox products since I've bought them. I'm hoping their endlinks are better quality.

Oh that answers my question. Thanks.
At this point in your build, you pretty much have an Si coupe sans the B16 and white paint. I wish Si's came in white in addition to red, blue, and black.
Any plans for the D16?
The great thing about a single cam is that you get amazing mileage. I kept my D16 mostly stock for this reason.

I should also clarify myself and say that I hope Blox endlinks are of better quality than other Blox products. I have no doubt the ASR endlinks are good quality, meant mainly for track cars. Well, I don't take my car to the track, just drive it on the streets and the occasional mountain cruise. So in that case, I feel I don't need spherical adjustable endlinks and can manage with fixed type endlinks.
As far as plans for the D16. Pretty much like you. A couple years ago I wanted to do a swap, possibly a B18 or even a K20 if I could afford it. But now, I like the mileage I get and I get by just fine with a single. Sure, it's a little slow and a little underpowered but I can live with it. I plan on leaving the engine alone and as much as I would like to make it a fast little car, I'm content with leaving it the way it is now. A nice looking, comfortable yet good handling cruising car.

I am skeptical about running any Blox product as they have quality similar to Obx products. That is why I was concerned with the quality of the endlinks.
Since the bushings in the endlinks aren't subjected to as much load as a rear lca bushing you should be fine at least in theory.
What I love about the Civic EX is that the front brakes are identical to the 99-00 SI's but with drums which is why a different prop valve is used. Same goes for the master cylinder which is identical to an SI's.
I love the direction this project is taking, simple yet effective. The parts are well thought out.
