IAmTheLast i1100: i was just reading and nissan was the first company to create Variable Cam Lift and Variable Valve Lift.. they were the first because of the government was going nissan, you bishes, your cars are so dirty, clean up your act. it says honda followed shortly after with VTEC
IAmTheLast i1100: intersting stuff
IAmTheLast i1100: *
IAmTheLast i1100: but VTEC is still different from VV-L
IAmTheLast i1100: see VTEC does actually "kick in" at a certain RPM(s)
IAmTheLast i1100: while VV-L pretty much continually kicks in lol
IAmTheLast i1100: but you just dont get as much of a boost5 all at one time

I need a argument and some facts to shut this kid up thx,:honda:

no need to argue about who had it first...now the question is which one is better?

Variable Valve timing was to help aid the compromise people have when it comes to making a daily driver.

VTEC is an on n off switch from two different cam profiles.
majority of the other ones are continously changing. They change cam timing. The new IVTEC also does it but only on intake cam. I would imagine the best one is a Double VANOS or something of that similarity where both intake and exhaust timing is changed.

In reality it just allows for better fuel economy as well as power up top. Is it better? Depends on what you think is better. I like how the VTEC is an on and off switch allowing better fuel economy as well as power. BUt I guess thats why I got turbo too.. :P

ok, so technically fiat was the first, but Honda was the first to create a aggressive cam lift at a certain rpm, without screwing up fuel economy

I look at it like this...Honda was not the first to come out with the change in the cam profile. But, Honda is known around the world for having perfected this technology and even advancing it before any other company. Honda has done such a marvelous job with their technology and advancements on cam profiles that some of our 4 CYLINDER engines are outputting 6CYL engines. My favorite example is with an Acura RSX type S. 4Cyl. K20a2 making (200-210 hp depending on where you get your info from.) Hyundai has the Tiburon. V-6 making 200 hp. The Engine with less cylinders creates more power than the larger one?!? Truly remarkable. Another example is with the Chrysler 300C. V-6 rated at 200 hp. Honda beats it again! Next time you see something that has a V-6 check and see how much power it is making. Then compare that to a honda 4Cyl. the F20c (S2K motor) is a 4 cyl. making roughly 240 hp! You will be a little shocked to find that if the 4cyl doesn't make more power, it damn sure is not that far off from equaling an engine that has 2 additional cylinders! And for those of you who love fast facts, did you know (I'm not sure if it is still true with new cars coming out and all) that the Honda S2000 displaced more Horsepower per liter than any other car last year? (This is even including the Enzo Ferrari!!!) Truly AMAZING!

vtec kicks around 4500 - 5000 normally, but u can change it with a vtec controller, does anyone out there have one? what are the benefits?

i think a'pexi may have a vtec controller for the hondas and acuras but i know hondata and other engine management systems can control your vtec engagement point

vtec can changeover even as high as 5500 on some cars, but people always have this misconception that with lowering the vtec engagement that they will get more power. this is not always true, especially on a stock engine. lowering the changeover on a stock engine you will almost defintitely lose power, honda set it there for a reason. the only reason to have one is on a modified engine, preferrably after changing cams. on a dyno is really the only true way to see where it is best at. and apexi is the most popular, there are also ones made by......fields, spoon, buddy club, etc. take your choice. apexi is probably one of the best, considering you can adjust A/F on top of the vtec engagement.

apexi's vtec controller, does a/f too? wow.. i may have to get one after i build my h22a, have a dyno shop tune it for me before i add boost.
