ok, i have a d16z6 that im swapping into my dx, now the z6 engine is from an automatic, and my old d15b7 engine harness had some sort of neutral pin switch. the z6 auto harness does not have this.
if any1 can name the differences between the two harness's plz name them. But
basically what i need to know is do i need the manual engine harness, or will the automatic harness work....im looking to do this the right way, and would prefer to not throw a cel code or anything.

thanks in advance,
matt

and btw, yes i have posted this on other forums, its not to be a forum whore, its just so i can get multiple explanations and the most information avaiable.

use your stock manual harness.... and the only difference in harness is going to be that your stock harness doesnt have the Vtec plugs... the d16z6 does have them... if your going to make the vtec work.. you have to add the plugs and run them to the ecu...

what steps does it take to "add the plugs"? just cutting the plugs out, pulling the pins to the plugs, and adding wire from them to go to the ecu directly?

initially yes... but you want to do it cleanly... what year is your car?....here are some pics... (SOURCE FF-SQUAD.COM)

my dx is a 94, and the z6 motor is from a 93 ex abs

the only thing you wont need is the knock sensor... and one of the plugs on the vtec sil. will need to be grounded.. it should be black...

You should lay the harnesses next to each other on the floor if you can,
and just move the vtec wires over from one to another. This way it'll look stock, and you're sure to get it right.
Take a soldier iron and get that earth moved over aswell.

Inside the car, take out the heater to get better access to the hole in the firewall.
Also remove the battery, tray and fuse panel in the engine compartment.
If you unwrap the tape on the harness, put the new wires in and put the pins in the connector, then wrap some new tape around it, It will look stock.

However, you could just run two wires directly, for a much smaller effort.
However, imo it will kind of look half assed. I think the effort's worth it in the end.
Used the pictures posted above myself when I did the job, and it worked perfectly.

right now i think he should focus on getting it running.. he can do the clean up later.. remember this is his first setup and doesnt really have anyone there to guide him

In that case, just put them straight in there, directly from sensor to ecu.
Just put some tape around them securing them to the harness, so they don't get cought up in anything moving etc.

I did it myself though, without any help or guidance. Rather do it right the first time, so you don't have to redo it later.
But that is perfectly up to each to decide.

well, i do have a knack for electrical....considering im a mobile installer for Best Buy, ive done a fair shair of under the hood electrical work, so the electrical seems rather easy for me, its the actual mechanical part that im not experienced with

::::EDIT:::: removed pictures for bandwith purposes

edit, i can get any other pictures if any1 wants too see what im referring to

ok, ive got the harness's pulled apart, there are two plugs that are not on the dx harness. now i need to know which wires go where, there are two wires coming from the light green plug ( blue/black, black ). and there is one other plug that is not on my original dx harness. the second plug has one wire ( green/yellow )

basically i need to know the purpose of plug, because there is one item that my original dx harness had that the ex harness did not... that was a neutral safety swtich. but there is the plug that this switch should plug into, so wouldnt it just be easier to just unplug the neutral safety switch and plug it into the ex harness, and be done with it?

ok.. the reason you dont want to use the EX harness is because it comes from an automatic car.. it has diff plugs and what not... and you want to run ...
1. green clip black wire... to a ground
2. green clip blue/black wire to D6 on the ECU (vtec pressure switch)
3. grey clip green/yello wire to A4 on the ECU (vtec solenoid)

if your going to run a P28 ECU meaning EX or SI. then you shouldnt need that nuetral safety switch.... are you manual or auto?...

then yeah just run your DX harness and convert to VTEC... dont worry about the safety switch... it should be fine...let us know how it ends up...
