my 97 ej8 build-up-56k no way!

[alright guys, some of you know the story of my car. some of you newer members may not. i've owned this coupe for almost 4 years now and it's been a very slow build. i try to do as much as i can to it, with the little amounts i get to spend on it. i'll show most of the better pics i have of it and try to explain what i have done so far. i hope you enjoy.

here is one of the first pics of it. so stock, so high.


it pretty much stayed like that for a while, about 2 years, then i got some cheap coilovers and a loud exhaust, diy black housings, some black gsr fat fives, and i found 2 brand spankin new SiR front lips. i don't really have much pics of it like that. so, i'll fast forward a bit.

here's a pic of it with all of that on the second set of wheels i got, some bronze rota c10's. it also shows a carbon hood and a mugen grill, which are now gone.



now, i'll fast forward to the swap. here's a pic of it with the stocker y8


and after a couple of hours, it was out.


and now a couple pics of the new heart. a jdm b16 SiR II, w/ LSD and a jdm itr ecu.

alright, as some of you may know, phunhaus upgraded his brakes. so...... i convinced him to hook me up with his old rotors,lines, pads. all it took was some gentle persuasion. :rolleyes:

they are really dirty, but still plenty of life left one them. i'm gonna clean up the rotors, and the braided lines. they'll look good soon enough. THANKS BRANDON!!

yeah, i'm gonna wait on new wheels. i've got bigger things in motion. and i really appreciate that comment on my car. although i think that there are others that are better. as for those gsr springs,they are just going in the garage, some new parts are coming soon.

i guess you broken out the sand paper for that header. you can clean up header very very nicely with the right amount of time and fine grit sandpaper:TU:

yup, broke out the sand paper and a whole lot of elbow grease! i've already got about 3 hours into it, still not completely done. i still have the flange to do, its really bad and i will need a dremel to do it. here's a couple pics, i can't decide on whether i want to leave it how it looks now. it kinda looks like a brushed stainless finish. should i leave it like this or fully polish it?

well, i finally brought my baby out of hibernation! i had a bad wheel bearing that needed to be fixed, so i did that, cleaned it, waxed it and went out for a small photoshoot at my favorite place to take pics. don't hate on the pics, some are crappy looking. i had the settings wrong on the camera and didn't realize it. anyway, enjoy!

thanks guys!!! i'm really happy with the way it looks. although, my car isn't as clean as it looks in pics. it has some small paint issues that need to be fixed. i guess they aren't that bad, but they seem bad to me. it felt so good to drive it again, its been sitting for 3 months. oh, and my boys hatch isn't messed up that bad. it sucks though, he just put jdm fenders and REAL jdm SiR front and rear bumpers on it. it was just about to go off for paint too. first, it got stolen, i fixed it back to better than normal and then this happens. anyway, hopefully more updates or at least pics soon.:TU:

ok, its running. its not perfect though, still needs alot of tuning and a few minor bugs to work out. i had a bad experience with this motor at first.i'll try to shorten it up a bit.

got it all done and in, wouldn't fire. i had fuel,spark, and intake air. thought for sure i had compression, it was super hard to crank over by hand, so i assumed it did. messed with everything for a few days, double checking and checking agian. still couldn't figure it out. finally, i had some friends come over, just to see if i was overlooking something stupid. so, we did a compression test, resultsss.........0-0-0-0!!!!! i was freaking! we pulled the head, to check the head gasket. there was no reason it shouldn't of sealed, i mean it was brand new. put it all back, still 0-0-0-0!!! finally there was an idea, VALVE LASH!! i never adjusted the valve lash to the specs of the new cams, they were still set at stock. so, because of that, the valves wouldn't close all the way, 0 compression. after that was fixed, she fired up. its still not running 100%, like i said, needs tuning. but, it is fast as hell, tons of power, i can't wait to get it tuned! more updates soon. thanks for reading this long ass post if you actually did. you get a cookie. give me an address to send it to.:)

alright guys, haven't updated because i'm just fed up with cars right now. it's running ok, still can't get the idle right. it was getting close to overheating, so i changed out the mugen thermostat for an oem one. that problem is now gone. just gotta get the idle under control and get a little tuning done, it still rips though!!

no, i have it, you just can't see it in that pic. its 2.25 piping with a stocker gsr muffy. its kinda short, for stealth mode. it will be getting replaced soon though.

well, no real updates, i finally re-did my valve lash. it wasn't perfect from when the motor was assembled. i had it near stock specs, way off from the specs called for by Buddy Club. its all good now, no more loud ticking. makes me happy, i still need new exhaust though:TD: hopefully soon.:TU:

yeah, i sold it, sorry i couldn't hold on to it for you.

so i installed the Weapon R X-brace today, took a little longer to install than i expected. ended up taking around a half hour. anyway, here's some pics...







it took a little bit of adjustment to get it all to line up and such, i can't really give you much more of a review on the performance of it and here's why.......................

the motor is out and will be off to its new owner....so sad, say farewell to a very fun setup. i didn't really have much time with this one, less than 1K on it since the build. oh well, something different coming soon!:TU:

ok, FINALLY and update. i went out to Suja 1 today and hung out most of the day and came back with some parts and more ideas and possible changes on things....

its and eg subframe for those of you who can't tell. the reason i went this route is becase the are three main benefits. you get better clearance between the radiator support and the intake manifold, you get better ground clearance(very important), and lastly, a better angle on the axles.

i also picked these up from a friend, don't really need them since the suframe came with them...

he also gave me that subframe tie bar, though i found out today that it can't be used with a kswap. sucks. anyway, i still have something else coming in soon and more parts will be ordered in a few weeks. updates then. thanks for viewing.

thanks guys, well, the whole plan is still undecided. i have outside influences that always seem to help sway me to keep pushing and get better stuff than i originally anticipate. the things that are certain are a nice header(DTR/SSR, SMSP, RCREW) who knows. Kpro for sure, and possibly a custom intake manifold and a better oil pump. still gotta think about exhaust, which might be a custom piece as well. time will tell:TU:

nice id do a custom burns stainless header and exhaust, someguy on ht made a k20 header into 2.75'' exhaust all one piece with burns stainless tubing and flanges

burns is good stuff, but i wanna do something different. the header will almost definitely be a DTR or SMSP. and the exhaust is still up in the air,but could possibly be a custom titanium piece.......oh and anything less than 3" exhasut for a K is FTL

well,alot has happened during my hiatus from the internet. i bought a new house, turned 24, and got a decent raise at work. i thought about selling the K again,but then dicided not too. i gave away the 4x114.3 conversion i bought to a friend for a late birthday present. so, the only thing to report on the car is that i pushed it to my new place and started taking the front end apart. i'll post pics of it sitting in the new garage. there won't be a whole lot of progress yet, i still have one more big purchase to make and then i will be able to spend a little bit of money on it. pics soon. its good to be back:)

alright well i decided to start working on the coupe again. i will have it back together in time,but it most likely won't have a K. i'm working on piecing together a b16, just to have something fun to drive. so here are a few shots of the car in its current state. i'm almost finished with the bodywork on the driver's side. there were just a few dings that i needed to take care of. i think a total of 11 on the whole car and most of them were very small. i'm gonna get started on the passenger side this weekend. hopefully i can have it in primer by next weekend. oh and don't mind the garage, it was clean before i started on this thing again.








i also got the engine bay stripped.
