im rocking a stock wheel down to bare bones.. meaning no airbag... why dont you go with a CTR wheel..?

The ITR wheel will fit, I don't know the exact process to make it fit but I know its a bit more involved than a simple remove/replace.

As an alternative, one of my friends works for Nardi USA, and gets Nardi and Personal steering wheels. If you're interested I could forward you his email.

CTR wheel looks the same.

Its not the matter of if it looks the same. THE EK steering column is different from the DC/EG steering column. If you want to run an ITR wheel you need a DC column. EK CTR wheel is identical to the ITR one but it has different splines to make up to the EK column.

summary:
You want this wheel:

CTR Wheel = Perfect fit on your EK
ITR Wheel = Run DC Steering Column

Also..if you are into OEM wheels... I believe S2000 and RSX wheels fit also on the EK column. Just to let you know. :)

I would get rid of the Airbag, get a quick release hub and get a personal wheel for more security. But for those who want airbag, S2000, RSX and CTR wheels are good choices for an EK.

I already mentioned that there were differences, but that they looked the same. Good job detective. I was actually only mentioning that the ITR wheel will fit in case he wanted the 96 non-SRS ITR wheel as an alternative.

Nardi and Personal make some great wheels. the new Orido and NOB wheels are awesome. i'd love to pick one up from them eventually. pretty tough to steal a car with no steering wheel.

i've seen an S2000 wheel in an EK as well, and it looks really slick plus keeps your airbag. its all about decisions man, lol.

The Orido and NOB wheels are coming soon, but are very pricy.

Out of curiosity, how did you hear about the NOB and Orido wheels? I did the press release for them a while back and I didn't think there was anyone else selling them except for my friend Patrick (official Nardi USA distributor)?

i read about the wheels in the latest issue of Modified Magazine (April 2006). they are both listed on page 156 in the Modified Gear section. the contact number it gives for the wheels is for Axis Engineeing at 714-842-5924.

definitely some sweet looking wheels :TU: wish i had the cash to spring for one.

aspec products are also selling the special edition wheels.

I like the NOB wheel if it was red stiching I would be all over it.

I guess just a regular personal wheel for me.

oh yea digitalhorizon, sorry if it looked like I attacked you for the similar look, I just wokeup and it didn't sound so snappy when i wrote it. No offence to you or anything.. it does look the same :)

No worries. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, so I didn't take it personally. :TU:

Its weird how Nardi works with their distibutors. I've asked Patrick about it, and he says that its not like King/Mugen or Bulletproof/BYS, where there's only 1 distributor in the US... he works for Axis Eng., which is a sister company of FET Japan, which is JAPAN's sole Nardi distributor... but in the US any distributor can order direct from FET I believe. Kinda confusing, but I know for sure that the NOB wheel was only available through Axis as of January when I did the press release photos and the first orders were shipped.

crazyxzer0

yea i believe axis was the only one sporting it. Now it seems everyone has it available..

those Personal wheels from Aspec listed on H-T look really nice. i'll hafta keep them in mind if i decide to pick one up. you can basically run an aftermarket wheel with just a hub adaptor, right? the quick release feature would be nice too though. i guess i need to do some more research into aftermarket wheels, lol...

anybody have any good links to what all you need to get properly set up?

crazyxzer0
04-04-2006, 08:46 PM
Mike, you first need the wheel..

a universal hub that has 12 holes.

If you want quick release, then you need to run a quickrelease hub. One of the most popular brands right now is NRG (which makes replica ones ) that go for about 80 bucks for the hub alone.

Recap:

Universal Hub = $30-$50
NRG quick release = $80+
Personal Wheel $199

it starts to cost a tad... lol

NRG makes a slim hub for $80 because the quick release puts the wheel about 1-2inchs closer to you and some people don't like that like me. They solved it by making the hub shorter by 2inches. It isn't necessary but it is a nice option to have.

so do you need the universal hub and the quick release??? or just the quick release and the wheel?

i dunno if someone meantioned it already, but someone said on here that both Type R steering wheels look the same. the 96-98 type R(teg) does not look anything like the newer ones. it's skinny, not fat like the CTR. but yeah you can use it if you use the DC steering collum. & the s2000 / RSX & 01-05 CIVIC Si, steering wheels will fit the 96-00 civic with no prob. i'd rather have that one. it looks meaner

so wouldn't the NRG setup actually put the wheel closer to the driver than the MOMO hub? i thought you were talking about it being farther away?

crazyxzer0
04-06-2006, 02:39 PM
well..lets put it this way:

The NRG Setup has two things. a NRG Slim hub (the one that connects to the steering column) and then the NRG QR.

Before the option was to buy a MOMO HUB and run the NRG QR as the NRG QR is not a hub in itself. This means that the steering wheel is MOMOHUB+NRGQR distance from the steering wheel column.

The NRG HUB+ QR is a little longer than the MOMO HUB meaning the steering wheel would be only a momo length away.

let's put some random numbers on the products to help visualize.

NRG hub 3"
NRG QR 4"
MOMO HUB 6"

In the momo setup with the quick release the wheel is 6"+4" from the steering column.

IN the NRG setup it is 3"+4" so the wheel is only 7" from the steering column.

The reason you want the wheel to be closer is that it will mimick OEM distance from the steering column. If you run the momo setup, the turn signal indicators and wipers feel a hefty distance from your hand and you need to REACH for them. That really bugged me alot when my buddy got it on his Civic so I decided not to get one until I found a solution to getting the wheel closer to the steering column. NRG made the solution so I'm getting it!! :)

I've seen them, and they arent that nice. They are pretty good replicas but I prefer to get a real wheel :) and run replica hub stuff haha. I had a fake steering wheel before on my old car and it definitely felt different from the real leather of the authentic steering wheels.

If i was to get an NRG one I would buy a different horn to put on the wheel so it doesnt scream out replica as much. perhaps a Honda horn or seomthing

the ITR wheel will NOT fit and this is why

the one on the left is ek4, the one on the right is dc2

note the difference in the mounting hole sizes

here is a shot that is easier to compare. the signal switch slots are off aswell

the only way you will get a dc2 steering wheel to fit an ek is to change the steering columns out. and if i'm not mistaken they are different lengths
