Ahhhh the long awaited day. I knew it would happen eventually, it just happened sooner than I would have liked. The funeral of my beloved Xbox 360. Now I send it in for repairs. If you've ever asked yourself, "How long will this process take?" or "What all is involved in sending a console back for repairs?". Heres what to expect.
The phone call: After days and days of delaying. I dialed into 1-800-4MYXBOX. I was greeted by an automated voice named, Max. Max was a little creepy sounding, and a little too eager to help me with any problem that I may have had. After going over some troubleshooting steps with my new buddy Max, he happily connected me with a Microsoft customer service agent.
The agent: I didnt catch her name. But she was a nice lady, of Asian origin. She talked great engrish. After gathering some of my personal information, she informed me that since my console had a MFR date of "07-20-06", , a purchase date of "1-17-07" and was still under warranty, that any repairs that my console may need would be of course, free. Also, if my console for some reason could not be repaired, they would send me a new replacement console free of charge. Now, by new I am sure what she was meaning to say is, "a like new refurbished console". But what ever. I just want to play Forza again.
I await the coffin: I was informed that I would be receiving a card board box to ship my console back to Microsoft in. A.K.A. the coffin. Inside this box, would be packaging materials, a pre-paid UPS shipping label and instructions on how to pack my console for shipping. And that I would be receiving this box with in the next 3 to 5 business days. 3 to 5 days, great, I hate to wait.
The coffin arrives: Just as advertised, my shipping box arrived at my door step 4 days after making the call to Microsoft. The contents of the box includes, instructions on how to prepare your console for shipment, a pre-paid UPS 3 day express shipping label, protective foam inserts, a protective plastic bag and pressure sensitive packaging tape. Before packing my console, I made a "secret mark" in a discreet location. Just to see if I get back my original console, or if they pull a switch-a-roo on me.
After you pack your console in for its long journey, take it to the nearest UPS store and ship it out. But, be sure to get a tracking number. You never know when your beloved 360 may take a wrong turn.
Now I await word from Microsoft on the faith of my console. Will it be fixable? Will I receive a new console? Will they try to screw me over? I'll find out in a couple of days when my console returns to Microsoft. Will update later when I find out more.
