I was laying down on the couch watching some t.v. and fell asleep. I then woke up to an exhaust note. I live on an arterial so thats pretty common, but for some reason I rolled over and looked out my window and saw my car pulling out of my driveway. I than stood up and banged on my window and yelled out "Hey!". I watched by car speed down the road
I was sort of dazed, still about half asleep and I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or not, it took me a couple seconds to realize this was really happening.
I ran to my phone and dialed 911 and reported it, I noticed blood on my phone, and then noticed my hand was bleeding quite a bit. Apparently when I banged on my window so hard that I punched through it and a storm window.
A police officer arrived and took my report, as he was finishing up he reported that my car was parked down the road a few blocks away :) . I called up a friend to come over to watch my sleeping kids and the officer gave me a ride to pick up my car.
Here's the weird thing, there was no broken window or steering column. The only thing different in my car was that the fuse cover was off and laying on the floor, all wires were intact. These guys had a key to my car!!!
I know that some other car models have "interchangable" keys but I've never heard of civic keys that are interchangable.
Anyone know if you can use civic keys to get in other civics?
My next mod for my car was supposed to be race rubber, I guess it's going to be getting an alarm instead.

damn.. that sux.. but good thing you got it back right away... WOOHOO!.. and yes keys for ALL cars were made in doubles or more than that... there is only so many diff. key designs that can be made.... its not a common thing to find another car that has the same key but once in a blue moon it will happen...... WELL IM GLAD YOU GOT YOUR CAR.... i too need an alarm

I'm REALLY glad that I got it back. I was expecting to here back from the police in about a month, telling me my car was stripped and was in impound.
My car was only gone for about 1/2 hour, it was found withing 15minutes of being stolen. I'm feeling really insecure right now though, just knowing tht someone has the ability to just take my car whenever they want.
Theives suck but oh well, this is just one of life's things I guess. At least I can race my car in 2wks!!!

im glad it didnt get fully stolen!
Majority of the honda keys of the early 90's could actually be used to start other cars up. Owning a honda has it's dangers especially since it is a civic..
alarm...+ other layers of security is necessary in order to keep your baby safe. Good luck M.
do i smell an aftermarket wheel with quick release? sucks about your car getting ripped off. glad you got it back in a hurry though. theives suck!
WOW Mani sorry to hear that I hope your ok! If you have a aftermaket radio with a detachable face let me know and I can help you out with a starter kill. Also Civic's have a kool feature, on the driver's side shock tower if you take the plug out of the dead end plug the car will not start.
On my Coupe I have the Viper alarm, then I have a starter kill that works with my head unit if the face of the radio is not on it won't start. Then you need to have the seat belt on and then you have to press 2 factory buttons on the dash in a certain order for the car to start.
It was a pain in the ass for the first week or so but I can tell you It's well worth it to have multiple layers of security on the car I have had it almost been stolen about 3 times, but due to the layers most they ever did was bust the driver's door pillar garnish.
Honestly one of the first Mods anyone should do to there car is a security system. Makes no sense to spend 300 on a set of strut bars and 900 plus on coilovers and say about 1500 on wheels and tires with locks so the wheels dont get stolen and then a 2500 motor swap and 300 to 500 on an exhaust system but not have a security system so one day the car is gone, and you lost all that money and the insurance company is gonna be a bitch about not paying for the parts and the car.
I am sorry this happend to you Mani! Your a Great guy you don't deserve it at all, your lucky you got it back so quickly!

i worked a mits dealer.. and we had a ford key that started and opened 3 cars a taurus and 2 explorers. so yes it happens..
but what may have occoured. was~~~ like i went to get a spare set of keys for my civic after its purchase, right after. dealer asked me for no id, no proof of ownership and no ins card. just the vin i wrote down on a scrap of paper i had on the seat. no q? just went cut me a dr-key and a valet key....
wtf???? `~~this is how cars are stolen~~`:hoppingmad: i reported him to the manager of the dealership and reported them to honda of america per advice of our neighboring town(who said to and that that type of thing doesnt go on there) i bet it does....
for example.... im in the electronics feild as a profession. this year at sema.. {{hot import nights * for electronics}} 4 guys were arrested for
stealing rims and electronics from civics and preludes and del sols..
they had quite the haul..... i cant remember the value but was 2ce my house
and i got a huge 2 story..basement 2 1/2 car and enormous yards that i hate. any way they had 2 keyrings full of honda keys.. wads of papers with vin #'S and lock pick sets..and a key cutting device... turns out one of the guys worked at the local honda parts in chicago. not 3-4 miles from the sema show... it had been planed ... and the vins were copied earlieir in the day. and he had gone back and made keys.
# 1 rule of security for you guys...... COVER YOUR VIN#'S
with any thing stickers, honda emblems an envelope, electric tape, we guys get honda shirt badges that say honda (like mechanics wear) on ebay
sometimes.
they were on a mission, :hoppingmad:
besides the vin is inside your door anyway (or under the hood on some)
but its on every ins card in your wallet -or- purse if the case...if you ever find you need it. so hide the one on the dash theat is so accessible to the guy who want your ride easily..... make him work for it. give him a chance to get caught jacking your ride... dont just hand him the keyssssssss. oh and ej1. nice job on the security mods. but 1 thing. as an installer. if the kill is conected to the turn on of the radio? wich i assume is . if it burns up in the radio. then the car is stuck? i see it alot especially on pioneers.....sometink to watch for / but props for the injinuity:rockon: also i cant type and or spell so ignore all the typos

i work in parts at audi/porsche and we get id everytime we need to have a key made. people get all pissy when they call and you tell them the have to come down with all this shit. they're like" but it's all locked in the car"
i say " call a lock smith, there's nothing i can do until i have reg, title, or ins. in my hand."
i'm glad you got that shit back quick. thats the worste feeling. my car got broken into a few months ago, they robbed my rear view mirror. a cheap club knock off saved my shit that night. i got an alarm with ign kill and 2 way pager the next day.
they make this thing called alpha lock, it's like a boot that clamps around your tire. about $115. i seen alot of them in ny at different events and shit.
i'm gonna be getting one or two pretty soon to go with the alarm and club
here's the link to alpha locks site

Although I'm not responsible for this piss heads actions, I feel pretty dumb for not having security features on a modded car. I rocked my car with it's b16 on wheel covers and stock trim for so long that I considered it a sleeper and a non-target. The look it has right now sorta crept on me.
The next mods are going to be alarm, kill switch, and steering wheel.

the first thing I bought for my car was an alarm. It was about 2 weeks after I bought the car cause I knew it would happen.
It's sad when you think it wont be a target. My friend has a STOCK CIVIC and they stole it for who knows what reason. it was stripped even in it's stock form..so even the STOCK cars are not safe..
If you do an alarm, I suggest you place the brain somewhere else besides under the dash. that way the theif would have no clue where it is.
As for that alpha-lock. It prevents them from stealing your car..but again, it doesn't prevent them from stripping it. My friend had a Turbo Civic and they stole his intercooler, manifold + piping and his interior while the alphalock and autolock were on. He thought he was safe. his car was still outside but half the parts he spent so hard working on were gone.
oh yea and that alphalock....you can switch the rims and it won't work anymore :hoppingmad: And believe me, wheellocks aren't really hard to take off without the lock. :TD:

i know where you're coming from, but if you own a honda, it's a target, the sad fact is, people steal bone stock or stock-looking hondas just for replacemnet parts,it's all too common around here, my friend had a DA and it got stolen twice, all they took was the stock hood and stock corner markers and ditched it.

yeah i see what you're saying about all that, but it's a good deterant combined with an alarm and club. thats all it's meant for really, back up.
it just makes it that much more difficult for them to get away with your car, and if you have a good alarm with pager, then time is important. it gives you time to load your weapon and get to your vehicle.

man, that sucks. fortunately you got it back. that's one of the reasons i put 4 door handles on my car. it has keyless, but no way to pick a lock or use a key to get into my door. they'll be able to get in other ways, but unless a flatbed or tow truck is present they aren't getting far. i also have lo-jack, for whatever that's worth. well i'm glad to hear that it was some what of a success in getting it back. best of luck w/ it and take care of that thing. i'm tired of hearing about all these honda's being stolen.

Doesn't 1 out of 7 or 1 out of 8 keys works in another car of the same make and model? I know a shaved Toyota or Honda keys can get into our cars. The civic I have now was stolen with a copy. There is a theft ring here that got ahold of the honda key book and a key puncher. They look at the vin and cut a key and then they have your car. Always cover your vin and if possible register your car to a different address.

I'm at my friend's shop right now, were putting in a "kill switch" for the ecu. Basically he is making a router switch, a signal will either go to the functional ecu, the other will go to a blank. This will cost about 5-10dollars in materials, later I plan on putting in a removable steering wheel and alarm.
:EDIT:
The ecu burn didn't work, I'm just going to put in an old fashion kill switch for now

I'm sooo happy that I put in this kill swithch for the fuel pump, I woke up yesterday to find my car door opened!! I don't live in a really bad neigborhood, in fact some of the doctors that I work with are my close neighbors, but our city demographics are some of the worst in the nation.
I'm having an alarm installed with my next pay check.

Called the cops and said he got a good print but still haven't heard about anything. Good thing you got your ride back and yes an alarm would be a good thing to get
P.S. I have a kill switch in my ride which probly saved it from being driven away.

Honestly I've been really bored with my civic lately, and I don't have the funds to make it "more exciting". But I felt really bad when I watched it get stolen, that feeling went along the lines "you don't know what you got till you lose it".
I've never owned a car that has been this reliable and provided me with such a diversity of use. I mean, it's my only car, I use it to take the kids to school, go to work, pick up groceries, and simple everyday use. My civic also takes me out of town nearly every weekend, up to mt. passes for snowboarding, and still finds enough guts for balls to the wall racing. I've had only 1 breakdown (flooded the injectors), in the over 140K miles I've put on her.
The "angrychicken" deserved a rinse off today, so I put my kid to work.
I'm really happy that I still have it sitting in my driveway.

damn dude, at least you got yours back. I remember when mine got jakked last November. I had just gotten home from work. It was like 10:30 at night, and I went into my apartment, and fell asleep in my room. My roomates were throwing a party, and when I woke up the next day to leave for work, I walk to my parking spot, and nothing was there. I thought to myself "Did I park on the hill?" (We have a hill that anyone can park on, and sometimes I park on it) so I walk to the hill, and the car is gone. Dude, I panicked. The love of my life was gone. So I file the report, the cop comes, and she is giving me **** becuase I dont have any stickers on it, or anything that she can identify easily with. I was soo angry, then I go back in the apartment, and my roomates were like dude, your still here? I told them what had happened, and they were like yeah man, I came home at 2:00 a.m. and I didnt see your car in the spot, so I didnt think you were even home. In the end, it was a total loss, but we do know the local team that is notorious for stealing cars. It just so happened that in that month alone 12 Civic si's were jakked from the local area. You never think it can happen to you until it does. So guess what...when I picked up my new baby last month, within the first week I threw in a full alarm system. Tilt sensor, motion sensor, backup battery, two way pager, backup siren. I can sleep easier at night now. I hope this impacted some peeps.

Well my car was stolen last night, again.
I think 3 times this year now.
Woke up this morning @ 6:30AM, my kids were eating breakfast, gettting ready to go to school. I went in the laundry room to get some work clothes out of the dryer and noticed my driveway was unusually empty (getting to be more common).
Called the police dept to file a report. An officer came out and took my info.
I made up my mind to get out of the civic/integras, too many thieves.
Damn, I just ordered a bunch of new parts too , guess I'll try selling them on the net once they arrive.
I made up my mind to go shopping this weekend for a CR-V, good on gas, I can haul the kids around, easy to park in the city, I can take it snowboarding and mt biking as well.
Oh, well stuff happens I guess....
So I'm walking my kids to school, I get about 1 block away and find my car parked on the side of the road.
Everything cool, I jump in flip the kill switch on and head out.
Damn kill switch, best $4 bucks ever spent on my car. The theive/theives must have just coasted my car down the hill cause it wouldn't run. I guess I can keep my new parts afterall.

man M, this is one hell of a year for you and your civic. Be careful man..
I blame it on demographics, I live in Yakima WA, it's listed as the 10th city in the nation with the most auto thefts, in WA state the ej civic is listed as the 10th most stolen car.
The city I live in has a population of less than 100k, so there is a good chance that this is going to happen again.
In fact my car gets "broken into about once every 2 months. I keep my doors locked but I keep my windows cracked open about 2-3 inches so that thieves can just "slip in" without breaking my windows, again...

Thanks for the link, I briefly read it, looks like a type of kill switch.
I have one right now for my fuel, thats what saved my car from a probable strip.
The only reason my car got 1 block away is because (speculation) the theives prob rolled it out of my driveway, and then tried to drive it away, the fuel cut after a few seconds, and they coasted down hilll for a block and left it.

Ravelco is a type of kill switch that simulates more than just fuel. It has no color coded wires as well as causes confusion. When that is installed on the car, w/o the switch the car cannot be started.
It is one of the best kill switches in the world and no one has fooled it in terms of starting it up.
Lojack helps to find your car when it is stolen doesn't prevent it. Your other option is to get an alarm w. keyless entry and undo the key so you can't turn the key to open the door. Course they can still break your window but..the more layers the harder it will be to steal your car.

My 95 Civic DX coupe is #1 most stolen car in my state of MS. Makes insurance unbelievable. its even more than my 96 Del Sol Si. It is easy as hell to cut the weather strip on the right side of the driver window of the civic. then get a flathead and slowly pop the glass off the track. Doesn't set off my Viper cause no glass is broke. My Del sol has everything in the book tho, newest viper alarm, aux. battery, 2 sirens underhood, 1 in passenger A/C vent inside, one for the trunk. all glass.. and ya. My civic key will open my buddies 93 EX coupe, and my 1986 toyota 4x4 key opens my civic and 2 other friend;s cars. and also every other 80's model toyota..:TD: :TD:

im glad it didnt get fully stolen!
Majority of the honda keys of the early 90's could actually be used to start other cars up. Owning a honda has it's dangers especially since it is a civic..
alarm...+ other layers of security is necessary in order to keep your baby safe. Good luck M.
i agree. i have also heard now if they have your VIN they are able to go down to the local honda dealership and get a key made for the car that the VIN# is for, without no proof of ID. now i dont know if that is for sure, i just heard this not too long ago after my buddies SI got jacked and stripped

that is possible i have heard stories of dealers who dont check but every dealer needs proof that it is your car as far as i know. best thing you can do is cover up your vin number, you still have the one near the door and that one is not visible.

I don't think covering vin number helps with the eg/ej, I was told by johnny law that there are only 5 keys for the civics running 92-95. That makes it a easy trial/error stroke for theives.

yeah no doubt. well if u got a garage, put the civic in there, if u have an alarm on the house, arm the house alarm :D if u live in a apartment complex which to me is :frown: because too much shit gets jacked from apt. complexes, put the car in the garage, if your apt. complex has one. and its usually an insider within the complex who gives the heads up on whats new around the area, this is how it happened with my buddies 2000 civic si....inside job

tru say about the key thing.. I had like 12 of my friends were over, and we were lowering his swift gti and locked the keys in his car, I opened it with my ej2 key, and my four door key opened my uncles integra when he locked his keys in his car, and everyone I know who owns a 90-93 accord.
