alrighty.. gonna be buying tires soon and someone on H-T was telling me to get 185/60-14 instead of 195/60-14 .. they're going on a 94 Civic and i know the factory size is 185/60, but i want a wider footprint.. but how much of a difference is there between the 2 tire sizes.. which do you recommend?

Well, if you go by the P-metric number(tire size), 185 would mean the section width in millimeters. So a 195 tire is 10mm wider than a 185. I prefer 185/60s due to the shorter sidewall height and they square up with the wheel better, allowing the wheel to support to tire instead of rolling over.

good point about the tire roll over.. i had planned to get 195/60's, now i gotta see what tires they have in 185/60 ..

Isn't factory 185-65-14? A good choice would be 195-60-14 sidewall will be about the same as well as overall height within a cm or so. Plus you gain 10mm of with per tire if the wheel were a 6.5 or 7 id say 205/40 but a 205 is the widest you would want to go on a 6" wheel. I have 195's on my 5.5" hx wheels and they buldge a bit.

well, the 195/60 will throw the speedo off by a small fraction.. when doing 60mph i'll actually be doing 58.7 mph

i usually just use the percentage and subtract it from 100mph.
gives you a better idea how off you are during highway speeds because people don't run 60mph anymore.
i would get 185/60 if it is cheaper, if 195/60 is cheaper, i would go w/ those.

going with 195/60's .. they're $220 mounted and balanced and a decent tire.. the 185/60 tires suck.. el cheapos
should be mounted to the wheels later today..
