Some footage from the first Autocross/SoloII event of the season. I have four of my five runs uploaded...unfortunately, I had the camera on the wrong setting so it didn't record my fourth, (fastest run). From what I see, the camera is fairly stable...I just need to work on getting my mount set up to get a better view of the cones/course. Our next event is April 30th so I have some time to work on it.

runs look pretty good gabe. too bad you didn't get your fastest run on tape.

Is that saying that you won your class? i'm assuming Honda EP is some sort of division? definitely some cool vids though. :TU:

How hard is it to navigate the cones? I'm interested in trying but don't want to make a fool out of myself.
First Welcome to the site!
Second I like the vids I think once you figure out a good angle for a good view of the corse then it will be excellent.
Third I looked at the link to the pics of your car in your sig and I got to say that is one clean EJ8! I am really feeling that car!

it's easier than you think. when you're watching people race from the sidelines, it looks intimidating. but when you're out on the course, it's not that hard. the cones that are laying on their sides next to cones standing point which side of the standing cone you need to be on. that's really the only thing you need to remember. you get plenty of time to walk the course before you start racing too, so if you have any questions on where to go at a certain point, just ask.
the next time you're out, ask somebody if you can ride along with them too(i can almost guarantee they'll say okay, people at autox events are cool like that.)
don't worry about making a fool out of yourself either, people understand that it's your first time and they don't give you shit. they actually try to help you.

^, what he said. In autocross vids, we get to watch whats directly in front of the car, when your actually on course, you are looking waaaay ahead. Don't worry about hitting cones your first time out. There is good reason why autocrossers use cones to define the course and not concrete barriers.

Looks good!
For some reason I don't think my own car will be happy in those tight corners.

I didn't want to jack this thread, but the original poster doesn't seem to be on anymore and I didn't want to start a whole new "racing vid thread". Here are a couple of vids put together with guys I run with.

Autocross is probably one of the easiest motorsport to get into. You pretty much just have to find a local chapter and show with 20-30bucks to get started. I think anyone that's into cars should at least experience it sometime and I hope to see more people on this site give it a try.
Yeah, i know. the only problem would be having time for it. Working kills your valuable time.

Those tires are a lot of fun. When I ran them, I used 32psiF, 37psiR and I actually ran my first run a bit different than most folks. Everyone I run with goes "slow" their first run to learn the course. I do the almost opposite, IMO the first run is scrap anyways, so I run balls to the wall, not caring if if went "too deep" or took a "wrong line". The azenis need to be heated up to stick, so that also helped quite a bit and taught me the limits of the course. I'd like to hear what your driving style is like, maybe I could learn something.

i usually don't go slow either on the first run, but i don't go balls out either. after that, with each run, i push it more and more. then by the time we hit the last run, i have a "screw it" attitude, the tires are nice and warm and i go all out. seems to work pretty well, my times almost always improve as i go.
i need to get out of dsp! i just checked the results, 6/9 in my class. the first 4 all have racing slicks, and my buddy eric in the srt4 had azenis too. i'm pretty proud of all the stuff i ran faster than though. my best clean run was a 65.3
here's the results though. i'm running the 93 civic in dsp

Your times look pretty good :TU: . Looks like your going the route that most experienced driver use in driving style. Here is one of my recent events:

I'm car # 913 running in street mod. You can see that my first run is a DNF, like I said earlier, balls to wall, I spun out my first run. I did that a couple of times that day. The course is on a oval track, so there are a lot of camber changes that seem to throw me off. I should have pulled a 50 on this course but didn't pull it off. I had to slow down my last run to get a clean one in ;) . The guy in the civic who beat me is using a EG6, supercharged, it's a trailer car. Tyson is one hell of a driver, he can really push that little thing around!

That's one of the disadvantages to my car, I can't adjust dampening and rebound, at the last event, I hit a real bumpy part of the course @ 70mph, and actually got all 4 tires off the ground!

just got back from an autox today...first in my class!:D
i was originnaly in dsp, but i found out that the guy that told me was wrong, and i was supposed to be in sts this whole time. it's awesome...if i was still "in" dsp, i would've place like 8-9 today...

I've always had to drive in SM :TD: , my car is way under-modded for this class.

^^the one reason why i won't go b series...or turbo d for that matter.
i always hated racing dsp because half of the guys had race tires and i couldn't keep up with them. sts is definetly a good class to be in:rockon:
