ok so i have a 96 ex coupe. my pass window has a mind of its own. it goes down smooth like it should...but when i go to put the window up, i gets about 85% up and makes a loud "clangy" "popping" sound and wont go up any further. so i have to manually get out and push it all the way up. then when i drive for more than 5 miles or hit a bump it falls back down to that 85% mark. real pain in the ass esp. with winter coming up. anyone have any ideas? i dont think its the regulator but...ya

you will need a regulator and motor for the window I would also replace the run channel I see this at work all the time.

better than process of elimination, one at a time sux when it could be a combination... just do all 3 find you a u-pull yard and learn how to remove on a junk then reverse and install :ohsnap:

Sound like you might have broke some teeth on your gears, happened to me as well.
I'm with Dina, replace it all. You may not have to right now, but you will. Better to do it on your terms rather than gettting stuck driving across a mt pass in the rain during winter (happened to me once).
Civics are notorious for window problems.

Ok this is what is probably going on. Your window regulator is binding up and most likely has teeth missing. you can replace the regulator and it might work but the motor will not be able to handle the stress of a new regulator due to its tighter tolerances and the motor will fail. What made your regulator fail probably was a run channel binding. so if you replace the regulator with the motor and not the run channel you will run the chance of this happening again.

I am a Honda technician and have dealt with all this before and for the last 4 years I have never had a problem come back to me due to replacing everything there.

at the moment im all set, although my side windows do bog and bounce as they go up with the doors closed...i figured the track or glass is warped from people closing the doors by the glass...one day ill fix it.

but my experience with windows was from my parts del sol, i tried takin the window stuff out and it annoyed me cuz it kept fallin down and not stayn in place...ended up cuttin my hand/knuckles in a few places, and bein it was like 90+ outside when i was doin it i said forget it and it all went with the shell.

anyways thanx ill keep that offer in mind!

Same thing happened to me about 6 months ago on my 97hx both went out within 2weeks. I checked everything else tollerance and the guides and just replaced the regs at like $60 per. They still work fine.
