alright sometime soon its gonna be time for me to get a new car, my dad is buying my kia.... FINALLY..... anyways i want a coupe, ive been on here for a while and dont have one yet. i want a coupe, dont know what year, i want something that isnt going to attract alot of attention, but want to do a b18c swap. whats the best year to get for a easy swap? ive never laid my hands on a civic motor, much less do a engine swap. my dad would be more than willing to help and he has been doing swaps since he was a kid (muscle car head) i want it to be a conservative look, big brakes, and wheels, fast car, but no flashy body kit or loud annoying exhaust. i guess what im saying is sleeper. so what would be the ideal year for a coupe for a easy b18c swap, and what year motor do i have to get, or if anybody makes a complete swap kit? -kris

ok.. as far as year goes... both "92-95" body style and 96-98 style are fairly simple to swap into.. you can use oem mounts... from other cars to make it fit... and wiring would be limited.... or you can opt out to buy a motor mount kit... like Hasport they have great motor mounts... and for the year of the motor.. it really depends on what year car you have.... the idea behind it is to get the same obd as the car you buy... just to make it simple...
yup well said Lou! If you get a 92-95 then get a obd1 swap to make it simple if you go with a 96-98 then obd2 is the way to go to make it simple.
Swappin a Bseries into a civic is really really easy and fun if you have all the right tools and the time to do it right. I did the swap with my boy in my coupe in a little less than 2 hours.

check out the where do u buy you stuff from thread...many links on there to help you narrow your search for a perfect swap..also depends on if u can hang with no power steering , no power window , no sunroof , pretty much no luxory ....but lightweights of a dx like what i have...go ex if u want alll of those...im the only one that drives my car so i dont need n e other seats in there..ur choices pretty much in truth are dx or ex....in stock form though

maybe i got it mixed up, the older one is the cheaper, 92-95 is what im gonna get. trying to find one with low miles is hard, something that is in pretty good condition, adult owned, seems that finding a honda with low miles is like trying to find a toyota with low miles, good car companies and hold their value.
another question, what about transmission? do i keep the stock one in their or do i need another tranny from somewhere else? -kris

just to clear things up, calling 93-95 coupes "EG's" just kind of irks me... they are EJ1/2's

as for finding a ej1/2 with low miles....pretty hard to do...i would say dont worry about the mileage so much as the actual conditino of the body considering you want to replace the engine and drivetrain anyways. and yes...even the ej/2 still are pricey for how old they are...supply in demand...gotta love it.

agreed. sorry. but either call it 92-95, 96-98, 99-00, or eg vs ek, or use the actual vin code ej1 ej2 ej8...etc just confusing otherwise.

I would go EJ1 but since you swapping you could go EJ2. You also have to remember that even in its last year (95) Its still like 11 years old. Your not going to find one with low miles. However since your doing a swap in the future, just make sure it runs till then. The thing about honda's is they they last and last, so don't be afraid to look in the 100k range. Like everyone else said B-series are the easiest to swap. I personally like EJ1's because I think they are the best :D

I found one for $3800 for a 93 civic coupe with 88,000 miles. last year hehe.. they are out there.
As far as easy to swap a B18C1 (gsr motor) it really depends.
The options go as the following
92-95 ej1/2 will need a 94-95 GSR motor which tend to be a little high mileage too but cheaper!!
96 and up EJ7/8 will be OBD2 and the GSR motors can be 96+ but the thing is they will be more expensive but lower mileage too. You also have the option of the very expensive B18C5 (Type R) motor which is the mother of all B series.
I hope you thikn about your options and decide what to do after figuring out which is the best option for you. good luck!

yea im considering alot of options, i just got the honda swap guide, excellent read by the way, anyways the first swap i thought of was the type-r b18 but everybody said it was not cool to go for forced induction on them and thats what i wanna do. even if the motor has high mileage on it, does it matter if im gonna rebuild everything from the ground up anyways? -kris
