I know powder coating is stronger, but painting gives you a wider option of color ways....Anyone have any experience with painting rims. ( not rattle can)
Are there any hardeners that will help the paint hold up? If this is a horrible idea just let me know, I don't know too much about paint work.

I think if you get it professionally painted then it should be pretty durable.

Whenever powder coating is an option, painting shouldn't be.
Just my little 2 cents.

On wheels, powdercoating is way more durable and cleans easier (in my experience). My only problem with it is that if one of your wheels gets messed up (and being that its a wheel it probably will) it can be a huge ordeal to get it redone to match the others, given the fact that powdercoaters seem to come and go over the years and a lot of them have different stuff. Anyone can mix up paint to match as long as you have a paint code.
