I hate to see this happening but the honda is breaking lol. It needs head gasket + possible head work, speed sensor, window regulator, rear bushings, the check engine light is on, the honda rust is getting worse, and sometimes it makes some weird backfiring that makes it seem like there is a mustang behind me. I need to get to college next year and I think its time to find a new car. The honda was fun but I think its time for something automatic and a little more comfortable. I know im about to get ripped apart so lets hear it.

I know hondas are reliable but ive had this car for 8 months and have had alot of problems.. distributor, water pump, radiator, thermostat. The head is expensive and idk I just dont think its worth dumpin the money into.

yeah, you are almost done with the maintenance, after that you're all set for awhile. it's like, now that you did all that work why would you want to go into something else and maybe have to do it down the line...
if i add up everything i put into my car, sure it would be a lot but every car's gonna require some $$$, think about ittttt!

that is why you find a nice older lexus like an ls they are as hard core as a honda last forever and you pay crazy toyota prices for parts! i had an 03 accord w/ leather auto and only wish it had a manual love it other than that

Sounds like all the usual 15-year old Honda issues. And like Devin said, most are easy fixes. I've had mine for a few months more than a year and have had way more problems than you. I've replaced virtually everything on the car and sunk over $4000 and countless hours working on it and working to pay for it. I guess it all depends on how much effort/time/money you want to put in and what you want out of the car.

yeah if youre going to dump it (which i can understand) just get another honda.
Ok The issue your having is most common with any car that is over 10 years old! you have a 1993 Civic Ex that most likely was not taken care of before you got it. You can't expect a used car with an unknown history of maintenance to not have problems. All the issues your describing here I see almost all the times on vehicles that come into our dealer and I end up getting. If you don't do the required maintenance to the vehicle and don't keep it up how is it supposed to keep going?

i agree with you dina, every car needs general maintnace speakin for myself as soon as i get a honda the first thing i do regardless if it need it or not is a headgasket, timing belt and water pump job. i go over the car so i have no doubts at all, the check engine light are the easiest things to get rid of on 92-95 civic i say stick with ur car the money ur going to spend on a nother car you could fix what u have now like, someone else said u dont kno what ur going to run into with ur next car

Car problems when your a student are just another stressor you don't need. Sounds like you do need to reroute your resources. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't spend any more money on that engine.
If your on budget, you might look @ getting a newer SOHC swap. You can sometimes find these for cheap.
I've sold a couple of good SOHC swaps myself for $300ish.

Yeah, you guys are right. I just talked to a bunch of my friends and nobody wanted me to get rid of the Honda. I guess i'll take a head gasket for christmas insted of a PS3. But as far as that random backfiring noise I sometimes hear, does anyone know what that is?

Is it gargling or backfiring?...because I think you're talking about gargling which is a sign of running rich.

thats kinda small and cheap stuff to get done. so all u need to do is hit up advanced auto parts spend $36 on a new HG. and switch it..piece of cake...if u need help with replacing the gasket im there. (when i have a chance) o and some arp's which is $80 from TT.com
and is it backfirering or is the exhaust just popin? could be a hole in the muffler..mine did and caused that...$100 for the axel back from advanced too.
and u dont have to get the head work done. how many miles on it? just do a valve adjustment and go from there.
