replacing a headgasket isn't hard, especially on a d series (headstuds are right there, you don't need to take the cams out like with b series) you'll definetly want to mill the head if you blew the hg. any machine shop can do this, they usually charge anywhere from 35-50 to do it. other than that, it's pretty self explanitory. it can get messy though, make sure you let it sit overnight draining oil/coolant, and take off the heater hose on the back of the thermostat housing (it's at the lowest point of the housing) to get the coolant that won't drain out of the sleeves.

buy a haynes manaul too, it helps.

yeah, its not bad on a d series. like he^^ said, get a manual it will help you get through it and also give you important info, like torque specs. good luck and post up questions if you have them

oh yeah, and remember you are not supposed to re-use the head bolts. they become less reliable and can break. either get new ones or upgrade to head studs

hey, you can download the manual to your computer.
it's a .pdf file, and about 90mb

that depends, but on some level you're right. but..

if the manual says something like "turn 45degrees, then 90degrees"
- then you need new bolts.

but, if it says something like "1.step xx nm 2.step xx nm"
- then you can re-use them.

i don't remember how it was on honda bolts, but i bet they can be re-used.
- come on people, it's HONDA quality.
i will re-use them in the near-future when i bolt it up.

i'll tell you what happens.

Sorry but NO! it is always recomended to just replace the bolts.... dont take your chances... and its not milling the head that you need to do... its RESURFACE... milling will do more than a resurface... you can mill it but your comp will go up and you will need to adjust timing....

easy job, like they said, it's pretty straight forward.. about the bolts, though. i think the hayne's says if the bolts have expanded past X mm in length, do not re-use.. tensile strength stuff
