I got hardcore and broke out my dial caliper and measured my disk against another xtd disk that disengaged fine...they were .002" apart in thickness which leads me to believe that the pressure plate has too much meat on it.

I called you! When the clutch is bolted down, the splines go inward like its being disengaged except its not. In the first pic the pp is off and splines come out at angle like they always should, when I bolted it down the splines go in and sit flat

I will say that looks weird, not sure what would cause that. Didn't you pick up a new exedy clutch set or was it only the disk?

Edit: Looked on exedy's site under "Manual Transmission Related Automotive Products" and clicked on the "Configuration and Principle of clutch actuation" link and it brought up a flash animation of clutch operation. From that diagram it appears the diaphragm spring will sit flat when the cover is bolted down.

So it would seem that clutch disk thickness could be an issue, if the disk has too little clearance it won't fully disengage leading to the same type of symptoms you're having.

Also have you tried adjusting your clutch pedal? The hydraulic system will self adjust but if the pedal itself is out of adjustment that could exacerbate the problem.

All clutches have some sort of angle to them in order to create some form of disengagment away from the flywheel surface when the splines are pressed against by the throwout bearing.

Even speedy's 200k+ clutch from the B8 has angle to it, my old oil soaked clutch had angle to it, my new exedy had angle to it, speedys XTD, before install had angle to it, and last week when taking the old clutch out of a friends tranny from a JDM motor depot, it had angle to it.

Thats a significant difference in appearance. It warped.

The clutch ctually should sit flat when it's installed but it appears that the teeth on this clutch sit WAY to inward. On a side note...my disk in another persons car works fine. That's $20 towards my new clutch.
