So im looking to get some stuff done after i get my front end painted....Im wondering the main difference between the rear lower tie bars. Ive been looking at megan racing ones for i think $50 shipped then some LCA's and down the road a sway bar.
SO the question is....IS there a real big difference between rear tie bars like the no name and say megan and skunk 2 etc etc? im sure quality is better on skunk 2 but mostly for the shine.

the megan tie bar is junk...no different that $10 ebay tie bars. gat an asr plate if you plan on getting a sway bar down the line

Yeah. Honestly, as far as function, a tie bar is a tie bar. You'll notice a difference between having one and not having one for sure, but I doubt you'll notice the difference between different styles/brands. But I would still go ahead and get something of quality. It's going to be under your car in a corrosive environment, and the cheapo ebay/Megan crap is just not gonna hold up down there.

so an asr plate is what goes instead of the tie bar to hold a sway bar in place right? also who else makes that brace besides ASR? what about the beaks subframe brace...is that the same thing?

It's more expensive but the ASR plate is a great piece. Definitely made a huge difference for me especially coupled with the ITR bar. I'd say that's your best bet since you're looking to run a sway bar in the future.

I have an ASR plate and love it.

An ASR plate is different from a tie bar. If your running a larger than 14mm sway bar, your going to need sub-frame reinforcement.
You can use a Beaks Kit for 5th gen civics and integras, but I'd go with something stronger for a 6th gen civic (weaker subframe).

Sway bars are where it's at...
You will notice dramatic changes in your car's dynamics with these cheap little bad boys.
You can spend top dollar on tie bars and they will do nearly nada for you.

^^^ x2...u could have a lower tie bar, upper tie bar....and that would not compair to the difference u would feel with a sway bar...

i have had the asr plate for over a year now with a 22 mm itr sway bar...and love it...works very well togther. beaks also makes a sub frame kit...and so does comptech as well...i would either go with the asr or the comptech if i were you

and lucky for you, you dont have to buy rear lca's cause 6th gens come with sway bar holes stock....as to where 5th gen coupes lol

An asr plate actually doubles as a tie bar and a reinforcement for a large sway bar. I had a beaks bar before the asr plate. The beaks bar made a night and day difference in handling and the asr plate only improved on it

On the other side of that token, 6th gens with weaker subframes need stronger/more expensive support.

I'd drop my EK for an EJ1 anyday.

so let me get this straight.....

If i DO add a sway bar i should add a ASR plate along that is a subframe brace and no need for a lower tie bar....right?

If i DONT want a bigger sway bar and just to stiffen up the car a little for daily driving and better than stock performance with a brace like BEAKS or whatever.

the asr plate acts as a lower tie bar also....and since u said that u want to get a sway bar in the future, then i would just go with a asr brace if i were you

Comptech doesn't make the kit anymore. Rcrew is offering an exact copy of it now though, in black (instead of red or clear).

if i go to a 24mm kit will it make my daily driving any different like uncomfortable?

It shouldn't affect ride comfort much, if at all.

Yes, I personally think 24mm is a bit agressive, but what ever floats your boat.
Your car won't be "stiff", but you might induce oversteer a bit too much. Not good if Johnny Law is around, he will think your driving faster than you really are.

Thats the beauty of sway bars. You get a lot of roll stiffness with minimal sacrifice in ride comfort. Best handling bang for the buck IMO :)

I picked up a 14mm sway bar, bushings, sway bar mounts and endlinks off of an integra and it bolted right up to my stock suspension for $30 bucks from a junkyard. I had to use some washers and longer bolts on part of the mounts. (you will see what i'm talking about if you do this) I also had to use bolts and nuts to bolt it to my LCA's. It made a ton of difference IMO. I love it. I also added a lower tie bar because I got it for free. The sway bar is by far my most favorite suspension upgrade. I plan on going with a bigger sway bar and asr subframe brace in the near future.
