Hey Im planning on doing undercar lighting in the near future but i need t do my research first, couple of Questions
1) what colors are best for a red honda coupe?
2) price range and what brand or type
3) installation how much or diy easy hard?
4)advantage and disadvantages for those who have had or have them? in Canada, Toronto, its on the borderline of legal so i have heard that some get tickets while technically its lefal if bulbs are not showing + its not flashing
What are your oppinions on it????/

Ahhhhhhhhhh.......Did JDM just start a neon craze I didn't know about??
Ok let me ask you this?.
1) Do you want you car to look like one of the cars in the Fast and the Furious?
2) Do you like altezza lights?
3) Do you like big wings and body kits?
If so then go for it and put on the neon lights but I can tell you that this site will not give you any advice on anything of the sort.
We are into the Clean non cluttered look JDM styled cars that look almost stock, the kind of car that the first thing we want to do to it is, make it faster, make it handle better, and make it stop faster!
Good luck with those lights!

P.S. I love how they are coming out with "tokyo drift" now every dumb kid is going to be trying to drift down the road in their mom's ride, crash into oncoming traffic, or hop into a FF car and say "Why can't I drift!?!?!?" :hoppingmad: It makes us all seem like ricers because of a couple of bad apples
Thanks F&F...thanks alot for spitting on the import legacy

He just made a mistake before anyone decapitates him with their words.
Dragon, like EJ1 said your in the wrong area. If your dead set on neons, do your research and do what you like. It's your car, always remember that. You either make it look good or make it look bad.
Advice from me: No one likes a flashy slow car. You have three choices.
1. Get neons and be a douche with a riced up car and make others look bad by showing that all Honda's are ricers. *Screw the people who say that by the way*
2. Don't get neons, start off on the right foot. Me personally I would build up your suspension first. If you choose not to come back here then find a Honda Civic site that caters to what you want. Listen to what they have to say.
3. Don't get neons, start off on the right foot. Stay here and learn about JDM, what setup's people have, how they started their project, good parts, funny stories and people who will help with info if you have problems or questions. The best part is not a turbo, its info.
The choice is yours

my opinion on neon undercar lights? don't do it. :TD: i say leave neons to the kids with bodykits and 20" chrome rims.

I knew one guy that got neon lights, at first he loved them. A week later, he hated them so much he ripped them off in a parking lot and smashed them on the ground.

The only people who do that are ricers.

honestly what does it do for the car? does it make it faster, stop better, or handle better? It does nothing for the car it is mearly for show which puts it right in ricer territory. But like I said before, its your car and if you want it go for it!

ic, but what exactly are ricers only mods on looks and all, not performance and racing? or like lets say people who have both mods on major body kits and as well racing are those ricers too?

No respectible racer would don that crap. Everyone knows bodykits weight you down and spoilers for front wheel drive cars are useless. Basically if it doesn't serve a purpose it doesn't need to be there. A few weeks ago, I was at a local show and there was a red accord on hydrolics, had one of those racing mesh window thingys and the interior was cover in red fur with red LED lights. Red Underbody neon and he had his music blasting and his whole car was viberating which makes the worst sound imaginable in my mind. He was holding out a trophy from his window. Im thinking Hey he won the ricer award! Read over that, does it make the car better? Hell no it probly makes it worse. Hydrolics handle like shit, all that neon could of light up a stadium and fur interior...what the hell is that? He is trying to act all big and bad rolling down the parking lot..thats the type of stuff that gets your tires slashed.

people here just don't like the look. it basically makes your car look like a traveling neon sign. the guys/girls here at JDMCC like to style and build cars in the JDM theme. this theme being clean cars, subtle exterior mods, lots of OEM and JDM parts, and more function over form. we like to build cars that go fast, stop fast, and handle well.
anything that is too obnoxious or flashy is a no-no in our opinion. the less attention we can attract the better. we want people to enjoy and admire our cars for the parts used and the overall build, not just notice us because we have strobing green lights under the car, a 20 ft. aluminum wing, big fuzzy dice from the rearview, and a loud muffler that buzzes like a pack of bees.
undercar neon lights just aren't our style is all.
ic, but what exactly are ricers only mods on looks and all, not performance and racing? or like lets say people who have both mods on major body kits and as well racing are those ricers too?
people like Top Fuel, Mugen, and Spoon all have some sort of aero parts on most of their cars, but the parts serve a purpose. when the parts you add to the car actually function to make the car better, then it becomes allowable. however, most body kits and such out there only increase drag and add weight. not something that is going to make the car better.

here's my take on neons.
all it does is attract unwanted attention -- cops, thieves, skanky hoes.
they're money that could be better spent elsewhere.
they're added weight.
they're parts that could fall off, and aren't allowable in most sanctioned racing bodies.
if none of those really matter to you, go for it.. but seriously, take the 150-200 bucks you'd spend, and spend it on cool rice. like steering wheels. and mad tight JDM shift knobs. and JDM reservoir covers.

ok check it .... neon lighting is done to attract attention done to cars that people want to be noticed... our style is not to be soo noticed and fly by under the radar... thats why at car shows you get points for lighting displays... im in the works of competing in jdm class at shows and im not going to do the lighting why because i hate it... its "ricey".... i know 99% of us dont like it.... sorry if your not getting the support you want but you shoulda seen it coming with our name... JDMCOUPECOUNCIL... keyword JDM..... sorry...

thanks guys that was interesting i really never understood the different oppinions, just basically it looks different and unique. and i appreciate the feedback, needless to say i dont think i will be adding underlights for a number of reasons not just because of your responses but because of the main factors of
- unwanted attention for thieves and cops,

is there something special about carbon fiber hoods? or is it jus for simplicity and the look
JdmRevelations
04-17-2006, 01:34 AM
CF hoods are lighter than stock and look great... the thing with JDM and RiCEY stuff is that jdm is more of an OEM look while ricey is blingin body kits lighting etc...
is there something special about carbon fiber hoods? or is it jus for simplicity and the look
like JdmRevelations said, CF hoods are nice because they shed some weight on the car and they also look good. some people even opt to just paint their CF hoods and basically use them for the weight savings.
Adding to what JDMRevelations and red4 said, a carbon fiber hood reduces the weight up front and since we have FF (Front engine/Front wheel drive), it helps to reduce understeer. Although it is minimal, they do serve a purpose.

Yeah, JDM is a more functional style,as opposed to doing things just for looks.

go and buy 100 flashlights and zip tie them under ur car..make sure u get the flashlights from the 99 cent store so its 100 bucks plus tax altogether..jp the only help underglows would do is to confuse animals on the road before u hit them

Allright this is my take on this. First off, if you want neons go ahead and do it. YOu shouldn't not do it just cause other people thing its bad.
Personally I hate riced out cars, but Im starting to hate JDM also, cause everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. YOu say anything that is non functional is rice. Well how about your JDM carbon fiber hood/trunk? YOur JDM ambers? JDM lips? JDM ITR shift boots? Imo this is no better than neons, except that it looks better.
I don't like neons at all, but saying that its rice, i wouldn't agree. At least its no more rice than putting your liscence plate bracket on the side, or window visors, or a carbon fiber hood that saves you wat, 10 lbs?
So YOu hate JDM and YOur offended by the thought of us calling neon lights rice. SO what would YOu call them then? If they are not JDM and they are not Stock and they are not Rice then what would YOu call them.

I don't hate JDM. I love the way it looks, but I hate it cause everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. Its almost just what happened before with altezzas and bodykits. I guess it could be called rice, but neons by themselves on a stock car, I don't think its bad at all. I am not going to buy neons, but you basically can't tell that something was modified, except at night.
Rice or not, I don't like it, but I don't think its that bad. ALtezzas are much worse.

true that about altezzas...jdm in my opinion is functional add ons...i know you dont want to feel like your jumping on a bandwagon. here an idea leave the car stock...the only bandwagoning someone can say to you is that your on a honda bandwagon...that minus 1 from being a jdm bandwagoner. unless you can customize your own idea onto an inaniment object..its someone else's idea and they materialized it

Thanks for understanding. Bodykits, altezzzas, and wings are huge rice and look horrible. JDM looks much better, but im not sure if its any more functional than stock. Anyways, I hope I didn't offend anyone. Im just saying, 5 years ago many probably would have been rooting for altezzas and that stuff. Now its all about JDM.
As long as your true to the JDM Scene then you will rise above the posers when the FATF3 comes out it will make the JDM Scene blow up more than you can imagine it will be like that for a few years then the posers will latch on to the next big thing. I have been into the JDM scene since 92 and I have seen people come and go and talk alot of shit and then in the end they just dissappear so dont sweat the posers, Do you and you will be alright!

jdm parts have been always priced high and hard to get thats what makes it awesome..ricers dont want to spend the money so they opt for somthing that cost less and gives them the modified looks.not saying all my parts are authentic jdm parts but there are a few on there that was spending the money on from engine lighting suspension parts strut bars misc interior pieces..sure we may pay more for it but we know its authentic and the real deal...rc vs cola...
Partizan
04-22-2006, 09:32 PM
Authentic JDM parts are very nice I have to admit, but I still think many people pay an arm and leg for unfunctional parts. Take for example, the JDM integra front end. Sure it looks badass, but its not functional, just like a body kit.
queso
05-02-2006, 10:57 PM
Yeah that is true, but the integra type r front end was never an option on the showroom floors here in America, and people that dont want to look like every other integra, get the itr front end so it would look different and be straight oem/jdm

yup, and if you get the HID version you're adding functionality by increasing light output.
