Aight, i got a 1996 civic ex coupe, and im thinking of upgrading my suspension when i get some money.

This car is gona be a daily driver/occasional track/autox but mostly daily driver. I don't want my ride to be so stiff that i can't DD the car. I also don't want to lower the car too much so I scrape and have trouble with speedbumps and such.

I know that suspension is something to not cheap out on, but money is pretty tight. Can you give me some ideas what to look for.:jdm:

Hmm. So im guessing Tokico blues suck. Il proly have to go with illuminas or agx. Not sure for spring tho. Eibach pro kit, eibach sportline, HR sports..?

H&R hands down. Best springs i ever rode on and i have been on most of the springs out there.

for that price and the type of ride you're looking for, i'd look at the KYB AGX/Pro-Kit combo. its probably what i'll be running on my car later this summer. i've aleady got the Pro-Kit springs, and i really like them. they don't drop the car too much that i scrape everywhere, but they do a good job of reducing the gap between the fender well and the wheels.

the AGXs are nice because of their adjustability and fair price. i ran the AGX/Pro-Kit combo on my old car and loved it.

that's my recommendation for ya. ;) :TU:

Thanks red4. Yeah il proly end up doin that. Not sure if illuminas are better tho.

I found the agx on ebay for 290 shipped(do they make fake struts?)

For the pro kit, i can't find anything under 210 tho..gee:TD:

On your stock shocks, how much of an improvement did the prokit provide. I don't really care about the "lowness" i care bout the handeling:rockon:

i wouldn't even bother trying to use stock struts with lowering springs, they may not be able to handle the spring rates and can blow prematurely due to the reduction in travel, so at best you'll be bouncing around alot and at worst you'll have to buy new shocks in a few weeks anyway. I can vouch for the KYB AGX's, we've had them on my girl's car for over a year with no problems and they control the ride quite well, the adjustability is nice too. We're currently on skunk2 springs as well but i wouldn't recommend them if you don't want to go that low. and yeah, they sell fake everything on ebay.

Illumina's have like one more setting on the struts than that AGXs. its all in the brand name though. doesn't necessarily mean the Illumina's are far superior or anything.

besides, you said you wanted to spend about $500. $290 + $210 = $500 ;)

and truthfully, like DA said, i wouldn't bother putting springs on stock shocks. it lowers the car but thats about it. you could almost say that the ride is worse, just because the car is lower on the stock shocks, which really aren't built to handle a lower drop than stock, and it just leads to the stockers blowing up and getting really worn and not being able to do their job.

so, IMO, wait to lower your car until you can do the shocks at the same time. I did my springs on stock shocks because i had also spent about $500-600 in other suspension/brake components, and another $500 on shocks just wasn't feasible. now i'm wishing i had done shocks when i did my springs, just because now i'll have to take the entire suspension apart AGAIN to fix what i should have done in the first place. :TD:

you can't really fake AGXs. besides, that guy has over 15,000 sales with a 99.4% rating. i'm sure he's legit. $290 is awesome for those AGXs though. i'll hafta keep him in mind for when i buy my shocks.

Yeah I hope so too. That is definetly a good price. Where did you get your prokit from?

actually, i got mine for a local junkyard. it was on an Si sitting out in the yard. i got the entire shocks/mounts/springs for $140. i ended up junking the stock shocks and sold the mounts for $20. so in reality they only cost me about $120. got a great deal on em. ;)
