Which one should I go with a b18 or a h22?
How deep are your pockets and what chassis is it going into?

If $ is not a huge concern, I'd rock the H, face down.

Well my buddy has the H22. It's in his grage in MD and I'm in NC. So I guess I'll have to take a drive. The h22 has been sittin for about 2 years! Besides changing oil and the rest of the fluid what do you think I should do before I put it in?

get built axles for it. hasport makes a good setup. change the clutch & flywheel while its out of the car. just give the motor a good look over, maybe check the compression. like edwin said though, what chassis are you putting it into? and how much money are you wanting to spend? cuz if its goin in a civic, by the time you buy the motor, the mounts, do a custom shift linkage setup, buy new axles, bla bla. you couldve just bought a b18c(typeR) and had the same hp with a higher redline. & more parts are gonna be up for grabs later on down the road.
h22 is gonna be awesome for staightaways, but handling is not as good as the b18, the h22 is just soo bulky.

Timing belt, water pump.

I disagree, the H is not that much heavier than the Bs. I get to drive a H powered EK on the track now and than and it handles just fine. The last time I drove the car it was on a course that had about 50 turns. I don't know how fast I got going, but I was bouncing of the rev limter @ the top of second quite a few times. I never once had understeer problems (good suspension), the nose of the car never felt heavy at all. I loved the pull this car had, it was nice to drive a honda and not have to "wait" for the power to build.

Well it's going in to a 93 civic dx. My friend said he will give me the axels with the engine. The engine was in a 90 civic.

Have fun with it and let us know how it goes!
Mani I am sure the Ek you had was track ready and setup for track but a H in a civic with not too much work on the suspension is a big difference from a B series I got to drive a H powered hatchy a few months ago and it was on stock suspension and OMG was it scary to drive the nose was dipping alot and i got some understeer under moderate acceration. My B series powered Coupe has no understeer and handles way better than that hatchy did all I have for suspesion is KYB AGX's on stock new springs.
I wish I could drive that Ek H powered car you did I bet I would have a better time and really be able to feel the power.

Edwin, the EK I drove had AGX's and either GC or skunk sleeve coilovers, a camber kit and SSR rear sway bar. It was a pretty basic set up. I drove it using my 14" volk ce28s with Falken 215's, 32psiF 36psiR. The civic is a pretty basic street car, full leather interior etc...
I think it really boils down to opinion, I drove that car along with a another friend who thought the civic was too loose, he even said it oversteered too much. I remember going through 2 sections without braking, I just "lifted" a bit and slammed back on WOT to get around corners. My co-driver braked prior to entry and than went WOT. I oversteered while he gripped. I was almost 3sec faster.
The only problem I had was with the stock Dx brakes, they were pretty weak, the owner is now working on GSR brakes all around :TU: . I'm hoping to drive this car next month again.
Thats cool man I wish I could drive that Hatchy man the one here had a stolen motor in it and got taken by the cops. I know your a way better driver than I am and I bet you could make my coupe...err my old coupe look good on a track!

What model is your coupe? I'd highly recomend upgrading the brakes if needed. For the same amount that you would spend on GSR/Ex brakes, you can score the 4x114 swap (front and rear) from hmotors for 300ish.

i say go with the B18 cause of the less stress and you can always make the b18 as fast or maybe faster then the h22 with lesser money

LMAO!!!! that is classic. Ahhh, I love it!! Thats the thing about a honda, all top end, imagine a built VTEC motor with a Sequential clutch, like the new oldmobiles!! That would be a ride !!
