Nate, I think your question if overly generalized so it's pretty hard to answer.
I've driven on at least 20 different performace tires, each had very different advantages/disadvantages, and the advantages/disadvantes are mosty based on MY opinion and not fact.
Try rephrasing your question, it might then be easier to get some feedback. What are you looking for in a tire? What is your price range? Well it be used for summer only or all year around? How long do you expect your tire to last? What type of weather will you be driving in (wet, winter, hot, etc)?
If you post some more specifics, I'd be happy to give you feedback and my opinions.

ok like angrychicken said... the question is overty generalized..... its really on a per person basis..... like the falken Azenis.... i love that tire but i know people that hate it.... so to best answer a question like this why dont you tell us if you have some tires in mind..... and also what angrychicken said about price range, what you want out of the tire... etc...

All-Season tire on a budget= Falken Ziex, they have a high tread wear rating (300), although I think they wear faster than indicated. You can use these in hot or cold temps, you can even use these in the snow if needed. I found they drove in the wet fairly well. I used around 2-3 sets of these around 5yrs ago. I really don't consider them a performance tire but they are a great year-round tire that are cost effective. They didn't stick compared to "real" performance tires and have soft sidewalls, but again, they are a great street tire for year-round use for the average joe who doesn't do a whole lot of canyon carving.
When you are able to afford it, I'd recommend using at least 2 sets of tires, one for the warmer weather and a set of winter tires.

i just got a pair of nitto neo gens....i could'nt find alot of review on them before i got them seeing as how they are a new tire and all..but from the week i have almost had them so far..they seem to be a good gripping tire around the turns....they handle alot better in the wet than my other cooper zpt tires did..and they grip better in the dry also....they are supposed to have interlocking tread block design to reduce tire flex and tire wear...so for camber issues cars they are suppose to reduce wear by 25-30%.....keep in mind that these are the 2nd set of tires i have gotten so i am not comparing them to much at all...but so far i like them

Falken Ziex 512 are all season performance tires.. They do have a little performance for what they are.
Do you have snow in your winter? if not Yokohama ES100 can also be good tire but they are designed for wet/dry only. No snow.
Couple options for 205/50/15 for example
Falken Ziex 512 (340 treadwear) roughly $50 a tire from www.vulcantires.com
Yokohama ES100 (280 treadwear) roughly $75 tirerack/vulcantires
those are the only tires I've tried that I like that meets your requirements. I have bridgestone Potenza Re750 which are also all season tires and they grip better than those tires I've listed but they do not have the bang for buck status since it is over 100bucks.

I'm with this guy, go with the yoko's, they are the ish. I have the falken's for my 15's and they don't measure up to the yoko's. The yoko's like to stick to the rode, very fun tires, a bit noisy though.

Ya, Falken and Yokohama's R great. But personally I'd suggest the Essenza Type R Tires. They are about 70 bucks per tire. I'm using em on MSR 17'' wheels. They grip great, not the best but they look great on the sidewall and the V-pattern tread is cool lookin too:lol: As for TREADWEAR!! they are great on treadwear. they have the highest treadwear rating in its class i believe, and they are H-rated for 135MPH+, which is good cause I never go over 131. they are 215/40/!!17!!
