like the title says, what kind of intake are you using? i have a Top Fuel power chamber replica. it's identical in every way to a real one. a friend of mine has one and its exactly the same. its super loud, it resonates the whole interior with great sound. it looks pretty mean as well. it's sometimes referred to as the "whale p***s".

Here it is how it looks like(its dirty, i know, need to give it a lil cleaning ):

Here's another:

I'm planning on painting that pipe black as soon as i get some time to take it off, and put on the stock stuff so i can paint it.

BTW, this is how my baby looks like:

red4
03-23-2006, 08:17 AM
your intake looks good man. i like it. i'm pretty much decided on keeping the stock air box, so something like that pipe would be a good upgrade for me to utilize the factory setup.

as far as other pics of your car though, you should start a build-up thread in Members' Rides to show your progress. :TU:

So I need to ask what is the benifit of that pipe as opposed to a regular intake system?

So I need to ask what is the benifit of that pipe as opposed to a regular intake system?

it elminates the restrictions of the stock air tubes and allows you to retain the stock filter and air box. spoon runs a similar type of intake on all of their cars.

i like it because it keeps your filter enclosed and keeps it away from the normal dirt and grime that can get inside your engine bay. plus stock filters are cheaper, easier to locate, and easier to replace than the cone type filters.

Dina
03-23-2006, 08:11 PM
Oh I understand now, kind of, but my cone filter can be cleaned with the K&N cleaner kit. From workin at Honda, all air filters are supposed to be replaced at every 15K miles. With the K&N's, you can clean them at those intervals for far less than replacing it. I understand the keeping it away from the road grime and such but, I don't think that kind of tube will give you the power gains a CAI will give ya. I know from experience that with a CAI and all the oem splash shields in place, the filter will not get that much dirtier than the stock filter will.

AEM CAI with dryflow filter, guess i cant compare the sound to anything cuz thats the only intake i ever had, never even had a stock one. but i guess i like it, nothin special. i plan to run a PW:JDM power chamber carbon fiber intake when i swap.

Oh guys, i did this because i want to keep it a sleeper, i am planning to paint it black, so now if cops pull me over, it looks like if it came like that from the factory. Also, i have a lil arm that goes down like a cai whenever it is not raining. I also noticed that the darn thing gets more silent with the piece. I don't knoe if you guys noticed it, but the piping is not from a d16y8, mwahahaha:D .

If you see it closely, the piping is from a si, i had a hold of one, so i said why not. The difference between the two is that the si one is a bit bigger, other than that, everthing is basically the same. Had you there for a minute huh red4.

yeah, i guess i knew the Si intake piping was a little bit bigger, but i couldn't tell from the picture. i used to have a picture comparing an EX to Si stock intake arm but it appears to have floated off of my hard drive, lol.

you ought to make more of those intake elbows and sell em, lol. where did you get the materials to make it? what size pipe? etc. i might attempt this myself. :TU:

I got that piece from an intake i had laying around, i've been trying several intakes, and decided to make my own thing. The funny thing was that when i got on this site, i was like wtf, there is something already like the thing i made. I am talking about the spoon elbow. It was weird. But yeah, i got it from an intake, i had to take off the paint first though, cause that damn intake was turning purple lol.

Heat rape it, lol. Are there benefits to heat rapping it? I wanted to paint it black because i took out the ac equipment and you could see my header through the bumper, and the bottom part of the manifold looks like it is an aftermarket. So i tried spraying that shit with that 500 degrees black paint, but all it did was burn off, create smoke, and look flat black afterwards. Red4,you think that maybe the 1000 degrees paint would have been a better bet?

I used VHT 1500+ falt black. I sanded the hell out of the finish before I sprayed it. I just misted it for the first 3 coats, let it bite in good. then after just got it all covered and even. I love the way it looks.

Thanks

like 94jdmej1 said, you probably need to use some paint rated for a hotter temperature. i'd say the 1000 degree paint would probably be fine. just look around for something specifically made for engines/brakes/headers, etc. and you should be good. i might end up painting mine too, but i need to fix the crack or replace it first, lol.

its a filter with a short pipe that attaches to your stock piping. i've heard nothing but good reviews about it. supposed to be one of the best filters on the market. :TU:

Hey Mr.EM1, how does the power chamber perform in comparison to other intakes, if you don't mind me asking.
Well I went from a AEM V2 CAI to this because of all of the rain in Texas. Had too many close calls with hydrolocking. But to my butt dyno I feel like I lost a little power. But you will always get more power out of a CAI than a short ram. http://www.takakaira.com is where I purchased mine from. Also has some info on it aswell.

Gotta a no name short ram. 3" piping, painted flat black with a black filter that I don't have to replace. Was polished AL but I don't care for the shine or bling. So I sanded it all donw and painted it. My friend had 2.5" piping and it made his intake sound less deep or resonant. 3" sounds deeper and more aggressive.
