Well after a very interesting weekend the Civic is back and better than ever!!
Thursday: I had refurb axles from Napa as well as tranny driveshaft seals to replace my torn cv boot on the drive side axle. I figured its torn, might as well replace the axle.
I go home around 2pm and moved the car outside to clean the axle grease that splatter all over my driver side suspension and rim. It wasn't too bad to get off, I used simple green and what not. I take off my rim and looked at the axle to see that the cv boot was in two pieces. It definitely not fun cleaning up but it took me around an hour to clean it up. I continued to clean up and my friend calls me to install Omnipowers on his Integra. I knew I wasn't going to do my axles till my Dad returned so I figured what the hell. We did that and lowered his car to the max!!! lol. No finger tuck. He doesn't race so it really doesn't matter. He just wants to be a parking lot stunna ha! Anyways I met up with Big Chris from the Local Forums as he has his own shop. www.anbauto.com cheap plug haha. He met up with me to sell me a brand new ACT streetlite Flywheel. I was planning to do the clutch job this weekend but I found out the ACT HD-00 kit my friend gave me was missing a release bearing. I was sad to find out that nowhere would sell me on wednesday so I couldn't do the clutch thursday. That night My dad and I went to change the driver side axle. The seal we bought from NAPA was not entirely the right side as it was a really tight fit..tighter than usual. We did not have a Bearing Race Driver so it was hard to put in. The seal broke on the edges and we thought damn, it shouldn't leak. We put in the driver side axle and waited to see if it would leak after we put MTF into the tranny. It started a slow drip and we thought fawk!!! That was the end of tonight.
Friday morning I went to Napa to buy two more seals just incase we break it again. Friday night we did the axle again and it was not leaking. Cool! So I drove it to get gas... $3.35 for regular :TD: I drove to my friend's house to hang out and I placed a cardboard on the floor to see if there would be any leaks. When I left my friend's house at 2:30am I saw the cardboard was covered in oil! I thought damn..so I slowly drove it back to my house. I double-checked it again to see that the car's underbody was covered in MTF. To my dismay the leak was coming from the Axle seal yet again. Friday was a dissapointment like Thursday.
Saturday I decided to go to Honda and get the OEM seals as well as order Clutch release bearing too since I was missing that. I drove to Honda before work and went to see some old coworkers. I went to the parts store and asked for everything. Turns out they ordered a clutch release bearing cause the parts guy went to the back to get it. My old employee number still works (Honda employee for life!) and I got the employee discount. I paid around $31 for the clutch release bearing which is cheaper than what I expected. I got OEM seals, MTF and Clutch Release bearing for around $50. :TU: I went to work and then that night didn't do much but ate with a few friends who went to the Team-Integra TI meet. I might post those pics later.
Sunday I wokeup at 8am after sleeping at 4am to start on the clutch with my dad. We started at around 10:30am. We got all both axles off and the starter all off and the tranny was ready to unbolt at 11am. We needed an extra jack to hold the tranny as it is a little heavy to move by hand when the car is on a jackstand. My dad cleaned up the foglight wiring a bit while we were waiting. 12:30pm my friend comes with the jack and we start at it. We run into the problem where the tranny lower bolts by the exhaust were stuck. We didn't want to take off the exhaust but we had to so we did and went on our merry way. We took off the tranny around 1pm and then started to remove the pressureplate, clutch and flywheel. Surpisingly we didn't have 12pt sockets so we had to borrow them from a friend. After taking out the pressure plate and the clutch disc, we see that the 2 of the dampening springs were loose. This might have been the cause of the squeaking when I press the clutch in. Not sure but the clutch disc was pretty much out. Took off the flywheel and that was it. Lunchtime at 2:00pm with deli sandwiches from the local shop closeby. It was such a good day clear sky and 69degrees F that we all just ate sittign on my driveway. It was like a picnic lol. Afterwards we went back to install the new ACT Streetlite flywheel (12.9lbs!!) with the pilot bearing installed. Added the ACT OEM street disc and the ACT Heavy Duty Pressure plate. We finished putting in the tranny at about 4pm. All was left was the minor things, installing axles and miscstuff like my strut bar, intake, starter. etc. Final drop down for the car was ready at around 6pm. It could've been faster but it was alright I didn't mind the hangingout. The car was lowered and we rebled the slave and there was still a large dead spot on the clutch on the top. It might just been the spring worn out on the pedal; not sure but will look into it soon. Started to clean up the garage as there was hella tools/debris on the floor. I started up the baby around 6:45pm and then took it around for a spin slowly to make sure nothing was wrong. The catch point is now much lower and my revs go up much faster as well as drop faster. It was great to know my car has changed a bit.
That was my weekend. I need to break in the clutch and then it will be back to driving hard again haha. Enjoy my long post haha. No proofreading involved so bear the bad grammar. Finals is almost here and I could use less brainwork.
